No Brainer Fuel Savings: Minimize Idling via Stop-Start Technology

By Linda Schafer, CEO, InterMotive Vehicle ControlsGas Nozzel

Stop-Start technology is no longer a dream of the future. It is available in the here and now.

Stop-Start technology virtually eliminates idling by automatically turning a vehicle's engine off and on without the driver having to do anything differently than what they currently do in the course of their job. Eliminating unnecessary idling saves money by reducing overall fuel consumption.

"The Energy Department calculates that 17.2 percent of a vehicle's fuel is consumed when its engine idles, adding up to millions of gallons burned" when the vehicle is not in motion." -Lindsay Brooke, The New York Times, March 11, 2011. "Put another way, 69 cents' worth of a $4 gallon is wasted by idling."

Keeping Up With the Changes

Mark By Marc Ellison

Change can be good but it is usually stressful. Over the past year we have launched a number of new products and updated several others. All of which can lead to confusion as to "which product do I need?" Your InterMotive sales team can be helpful in guiding you through the myriad of changes that have taken place over the past year.

The first place to start is with the multiple high idle systems we now offer. The Gateway product is fully automatic, provides access to chassis data, and can also serve as a shift interlock. While the Advanced Fast Idle System (AFIS) offers a low cost, fast idle only solution. However, even AFIS has a multitude of features depending on the part # ordered - 1 speed setting, 3 speed setting, A/C as an auto trigger, manual activation, etc...

Your LED Panel is Your Best Diagnostic Tool

By Bryan Elzy, Technical Support

 Gateway LED

You park your bus, get out, and open the lift door. You push the lift deploy button and nothing happens. What do you do? The first thing to check in a situation like this will be your LED panel. You will most likely see one or more of the condition lights not lit. If you notice that your PB (Park Brake) light is not lit, check that you have set your Park Brake. If you realize that your Lift Door Open light is not on, then you possibly have a defective door switch or a break in the wire between our module and the lift door switch.

Be sure to educate your drivers about the operation of the LED panel. With this information it will most certainly get the vehicle back on the road in the shortest amount of time. Feel free to contact us at technical support at (530) 823-1048 if you have questions involving any of our products.

Need for Better Technicians?

By Greg Schafer, President

We have had the good fortune to work with some of the best technicians in the automotive industry. These people are hardworking, dedicated tradesmen who have stayed current with industry standards and training. They doggedly pursue the root cause of an issue and are inspiring in their tenacity. They're confident, courteous and professional. They get the job done and are happy doing it.

But let's face it. We've also had the misfortune of crossing paths with some "mechanics" that simply don't come from the same mold. These are the "repairmen" that we grimace in dealing with on any given issue. They are the same type of person we can come across in all areas of our lives who are obstinate, difficult or simply frustrating who make life far more difficult than needed.

I often get exasperated with these people when I hear one of our Technical Hotline or Customer Service people trying to work with them. I'm always impressed with how our people deal with these specific persons and their situations. They truly do have one of the toughest jobs in the industry. They want to get the issue handled and the vehicle up and running as quickly as possible if allowed to do so.
