Things are Movin' for InterMotive |
By Ed Prokopik
Movin' On Up!
This summer, InterMotive will be moving in to a new, bigger, and more modern facility in Auburn, CA in order to better serve our customers.
Moving is never easy and it is always disruptive so we are starting to plan the move months in advance. Our goal is to minimize the impact the move will have on our customers and employees.
Stay tuned for future communications regarding the details of the move. | |

Is ISO9001 Important to You?
Well it is to InterMotive!
We are pleased to announce that we have successfully passed our recertification audit for the new standard ISO 9001 - 2008.
Every employee at InterMotive believes in and supports the company's efforts towards continuous process improvement and providing the best products possible. If you have any questions about our ISO certification or quality efforts, please contact us.
Do you speak Ford CAN?
One of our long standing attributes is that many of our products talk directly to the vehicle's processor via the OBD II data port (where you connect a scan tool). This eliminates the need to cut OEM wires or make connections in the engine compartment - saving you time and money for installations. Our ability to "talk CAN" has resulted in the creation of three new products - Engine Monitor and Shutdown System and Ford CAN to J1939 Translator - for the work truck and transit markets.....
Engine Monitor and Shutdown System (EMSS) Plain and simple...EMSS is an easy to install, multi stage engine and transmission monitor / shutdown system which can work in conjunction with a fire suppression system that allows a driver to safely get a vehicle to the side of the road in case of an emergency. EMSS reads real-time engine, transmission, and vehicle signals in order to provide a warning to the driver that the powertrain is about to overheat or fail and shuts off the engine once the vehicle has stopped. In the case of a fire, EMSS can receive a signal from your fire suppression system and will automatically turn off the engine, stopping fuel flow to the engine, once the vehicle has stopped. Other systems on the market may shut off the engine while the vehicle is moving. From a safety standpoint alone, that has never been a good idea. With EMSS, engine shutdown will safely occur when you need and how you want. Translator Module - Ford CAN to J1939 Up until now, if you had equipment that operates off of the J1939 CAN data found on most medium and heavy-duty vehicles and you wanted to install it on a Ford chassis you were out of luck. That problem has been resolved! Our new translator converts Ford CAN data (e.g. vehicle speed, ECT, TFT, etc...) to J1939 signals and keep your equipment producing revenue for you. Note sure what J1939 or Ford CAN is? Think of J1939 as the truck's electronics "language" (e.g. English) and Ford's CAN as a special, proprietary language (e.g. pig Latin). The translator acts as a bridge between the two languages so the electronic systems can speak to each other. The translator can be programmed to read specific Ford CAN signals and output them into the more universal J1939 language. Connect the translator data link to the OBD II port and the other end to your equipment and in just minutes your work truck, fire truck, or ambulance, built on a Ford chassis, is back in business generating revenue for you just like it did on your International, Hino, or other medium/heavy duty vehicle. Now that's oolcay! (Hint: pig Latin for cool) Programmable Relay Power Center It seems like every customer wants something different. "Turn this on when the switch is on but only when the vehicle is stopped" is what one wants while the next customer demands "Don't allow this device to remain on if the vehicle is stopped" or "Always keep this device running for 5 minutes after the switch is turned off". Each of these requires unique wiring, lots of relays/sensors and a hope that you can even get vehicle speed. And how do you do the timed load? Look no further. The Programmable Relay Power Center (PRPC) is a perfect blend of low tech and high tech that allows you to easily program and control up to 11 loads using a simple to understand Graphical User Interface (GUI). 7 individually programmed relays with matching fuses plus 4 low-power outputs combine to give total flexibility and versatility to meet your and your customer's demands. Match that with 10 individual inputs for switches or sensors, LEDs to indicate when a load is active or a fuse is blown, the ability to piggy-back three PRPC's together to control up to 33 loads plus a GUI to program each unit to meet your customer's requirements (w/o having to custom order modules) gives you a multipurpose, simple solution to a formerly complicated problem. The PRPC simplifies wiring and increases productivity & creativity and just may be the power distribution and control center you've always dreamed of! To learn more about these or any of our products, give Dick or Marc a call and we will get you the information you need.

Just plug it on and it works!
Everyday some new company comes up with the latest must have gadget for your fleet management, fuel maintenance, or mileage tracking. Most proclaim easy installation. Just plug it on to the OBDII connector. Our systems uses the OEM CAN Data to communicate with the vehicles PCM. We will stop communicating with the PCM if a scan tool, or anything else for that matter, is attached to the OBDII connector. The system will not function until the tool is disconnected. To install one of these aftermarket systems it must be compatible with our product and the InterMotive module must be configured to work the other system. If you have questions about which aftermarket products will work with our systems, please call technical support for assistance.
More Information, Please!
Wi th the additions to our product line, our systems have become more vehicle type sensitive. Some of our modules are programmed to function on a specific model year and engine type. Because of this, we have made some changes in the way we provide technical support. If you could have the following information when you call, we will be able to provide the fastest solution to your problem.

Advance Replacements
While InterMotive policy states that warranty parts must be returned for testing, repair or replacement, we understand there are "bus down" situations, or customer delivery deadlines that need to be met, and a part is needed immediately. Here is how we can help...
InterMotive can ship an "advance replacement" part, and will invoice a core charge. The original part must be returned within 30 days, or the core charge is due and payable. If the original part tests defective, a full credit will be given towards the "advance replacement" part. If the returned part is working properly, the customer has two options: 1) Keep the new part, receive a 75% credit, and InterMotive will keep the old part. 2) Purchase the new part, and InterMotive will return the old part for customer stock. And as a reminder, a Return Authorization number is required for parts being returned for warranty consideration. For more information, please see our warranty policy at www.intermotive.net

| Message from the President | | By Greg Schafer
Times of Need, Indeed! A recent tragedy for one of our long-standing, highly-valued customers really brought to light the difference of true need versus simple desires. Champion Bus Inc. in Imlay City, MI sustained a devastating fire on February 14th (yes, Valentine's Day) that completely destroyed one of its two plants. While we are all grateful that no one was seriously hurt, there is a different type of pain that they are now experiencing.
Within hours, the calls went out to vendors asking for their assistance and aid in getting the proud company back up and running. Orders were put on hold (for obvious reasons) and a stop-gap plan was put into action. It's been a bit hectic, but I'm glad to see that a new rhythm is beginning to take hold. This really is a great example of needs versus desires. We all desire to do better, to accomplish more or to simply improve one or more areas of our lives or businesses. But it's situations like what Champion, as a company and every individual who works there, is currently going through that really shows us what's a true "need". They need to get their plant back up and running. They need to keep their people working to support their families and they need everyone's support and understanding to get it done. I am always amazed at the level of resiliency and tenacity people show in the face of adversity. It is truly impressive how everyone within Champion and the vendors who supply the parts to build their products have worked together to begin the rebuilding process. Ours has only been a small part in the massive undertaking they are now in the midst of implementing. Champion has been a great business partner for many years and I'm thankful to see that they will continue on for many more. I hope our company never has to face the type of challenges Champion is dealing with during their rebuilding. I'm encouraged to know that, if we ever do, our industry has shown the ability and desire to be there to help us overcome them. |
