This newsletter will give you some ideas of fun things to see and do during the summer.
Have fun! |

Get Wet!
Go Tubin' on the Guadalupe, the Colorado, or any of the other Texas Rivers. Fort Worth is sponsoring Rockin' The River which is tubin' and live music on the Trinity River during the summer on every other Thursday.
Visit Schlitterbaun in Galveston, South Padre Island, or New Braunfels - you'll have a hard time geting the water logged kids to leave.

Paddle a Kayak on any of the lakes, rivers, or paddling trails or hire a guide for a fun overnight trip.
Enjoy the Sun and Surf on the beach of Port Aransas, Galveston, or South Padre Island - the links will take you to our maps and lists of fun things to see and do in each of these hot beach spots and if you're heading to South Padre Island check out adventure packed Vacation On South Padre Island article. |
Listen To Some Music Under The Stars

On a cool summer evening (which in Texas may mean 88 degrees) it doesn't get much better than listening to some great Texas singer songwriters entertaining you under the stars.
Mark your calendars for these upcoming music festivals:
- LakeFest on Lake Grapevine - June 25th - Jack Ingram, Johnny Cooper, Granger Smith, Southern Drive, and Blackwood Ave and 100% of the proceeds go to the Legacy Brain Foundation
- Thomas Michael Riley's Luckenbach Music Fesival - July 15th to 17th - three days of music with Gary P. Nunn, Max Stallings, Tejas Brothers, Blacktop Gypsy, Chris Wall, and lots more
- Frio River Festival - August 4th to 6th - a small festival with some of the best Texas singer songwriters around like Owen Temple, Adam Carroll, Jason Eady, Mark Jungers, John Evans, and more
- Larry Joe Taylor's Rhymes & Vines - September 22nd to 24th - the lineup hasn't been announced yet but it's always one of the best of Texas
- Tommy Alverson's Family Gathering - October 6th to 8th - it doesn't get much better than the Family Gathering with over 30 singer songwriters, camping, fun crowd, and BYOB
We finally made it to a part of the Kerrville Folk Festival and can't wait to get back next year. You can learn more about why we like the above festivals and others by reading our Texas Music Festival Reviews. |
Pitch a Tent or Level the RV - Go Camping
Set a goal this year to visit and enjoy some of the outstanding Texas State Parks or some of the RV parks. You can find a State Park that has lake camping, hiking, biking, beautiful scenery, and spacious sites. Texas is also home to several RV parks with resort style amenities and full hook-ups and locations close to lots to do.

If you're going camping, check out the Camping Section of Texas Outside to help you find a park that meets your criteria for fun, location, or amenities. Also check out these links:
If you don't have a camper, you can rent an RV - a pop-up, travel trailer, or an RV with up to four slideouts. If you don't want to rent, then some of the State Parks and several of the RV parks now have cabins that are perfect for two to six people and you get to enjoy all of the outdoor activities and park amenities - here is link to some of the RV parks with cabins.
If you're heading to a private RV park, our Camping Coupons page has some specials to save you some money. |
Hit The Lakes
In case you didn't know it, Texas is suffering a severe drought which means you best get out and enjoy our lakes now before the lakes drop so low that boat ramps will be closed or they'll be too shallow for safe boating - most of our lakes aren't that deep to begin with, so plan a trip now. Here are some lake links to help you:
- Texas Lakes Map - use this map to quickly find a lake near you to enjoy
- Lake Reviews & Top 10 Favorite Lakes - our reviews will give you our biased opinion of the best Texas lakes as well as where to stay, board, party, and more
- Houseboat Rentals - bar none, the best way to experience the lake and create a memorable and lasting vacation or weekend is on a houseboat
If you're heading to the lake, don't miss the party coves. Most lakes have a party cove somewhere on the lake but the best party coves are Devils Cove on Lake Travis, Hells Gate on Possum Kingdom, and the sandy beaches of Wood Island or North Island on Lake Texoma - lots of fond memories can be created here. |
Get Out of Town
Call your buds or close friends or tell the family to pack the bags, put on the party hats, and get ready for a fun vacation - oh, don't forget to tell your boss you'll be out of touch for a while and make sure you leave the computer and cell phone behind.

Here are some ideas for some fun, action packed vacations - Fun Filled Vacations in and out of Texas or Golfing Vacations that are more than just about a few days of golfing.
If you can't get away for a long vacation, then at least plan a fun weekend filled with new stuff to see and do. Here are some ideas to help with your planning - Weekend Adventures, Thank God For Weekends, and our list of Fun Things To Do.
Treat yourself to a day or more in one of the many fantastic resorts in Texas. Most Texas resorts have summer specials and all of them have fun activities for the kids and excellent resort amenities including golf courses, bike trails, lazy rivers, fitness centers, beautiful pools, and more. Here is our list of Favorite Texas Resorts and our Texas Resort Reviews.
Or based on your fancy, try a Dude Ranch, a Bed and Breakfast, or if you're so inclined, a Romantic Getaway. |
Take Up Golf or Try To Improve Your Game
If you've never played golf, what are you waiting for - head out to the range or a course and give it a try. Beware, it can become addictive and it sure isn't cheap. For those of you who play, it's practice that makes perfect, so use that as another excuse to head out for a round of golf.
