Moishe House and AVODAH: We want to hear from you!
AVODAH Alumni have taken on incredible leadership at Moishe Houses across the country over the last few years. We would love to learn more about the role AVODAH Alumni play at Moishe Houses globally. If you have lived in or are involved in the leadership of any Moishe House we want to hear from you! Email Rachel Ann (rgross@avodah.net) by October 12th and tell us your Moishe House connection.

AVODAH Blog Launch
AVODAH launched a national blog as a container for the incredible stories our Corps members, placements, alumni, staff and friends are living every day on the front lines of the struggle against poverty. In the most recent post, Yaeli Bronstein (NOLA 08-09) explores homelessness and Sukkot in New Orleans: "The ability to choose a fragile shelter as a transient all-in-one lodging comes from a place of privilege."

AVODAHCycle
Emma Epstein is getting ready to roll over the Rockies, continuing her 3,000 mile bicycle journey to raise awareness and support for AVODAH. Read Emma's blog about her  recent adventures including a 'Mock' AVODAH program and various Sukkot related events coordinated by Meredith Levy (DC 04-05) in Denver, CO.

Sukkot Retreat
Alumni Julia Leis (07-08), Hannah Gelder (08-09), and Julia Baskin (09-10) planned a Sukkot retreat for Avodah Alumni and the Moishe House community in Chicago. We took a 24-hour trip to Black Oaks Center for Sustainable Renewable Living near Kankakee, IL. The center is off the grid -- no electricity or running water -- and they grow most of their own food. The intention was to remove ourselves from the busy city life and bring ourselves closer to the food we eat, in honor of the harvest festival. Additionally, being 'off the grid' made us more vulnerable to the elements and reminded us of the Jews' exodus from Egypt. At the center we celebrate havdalah, learned about local food initiatives in Chicago, and volunteered our time and labor to help the center prepare for winter. Charles Dabah (08-09), Kelly Viselman (08-09), Becca Van Horn (09-10), Ben Levine (10-11), and AJWS alumna Hannah Lowinger went on the retreat.
