FAITH - The stuff vision is made of

What are you doing that's beyond you?  Something that you can't explain; that may not even make "common sense."  Too many times we confuse faith with gratitude.  Faith is thanking God for something before it happens.  Gratitude is thanking God after it happens.

The Bible is clear on the matter of faith. "And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)

Have you ever faced a challenge so huge that if God doesn't show up you know you will fail?  Any God-sized task will require God-sized faith.  As a matter of fact, faith requires vision.

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

The great hockey player Wayne Gretzky was once asked why he was so successful on the ice.  He answered, "I skate to where the puck is going to be." (When God Builds A Church - p. 131)

Jesus was a vision caster.  Look at some of his visionary phrases:

  • "Lift up your eyes!  The fields are white unto harvest."
  • "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move this mountain."
  • "Go into all the world and make disciples."
What's blocking the faith vision in your life?  Study the following passage and as you answer the questions, ask God to give you His vision of what could be and should be done.  When God is involved, regardless of how impossible the situation may seem, there is hope!

Study it:
   Matthew 14:22-36

Think about it:

1.  Where did Jesus go after he dismissed the crowd? (v23)

2.  What did He do while on the mountain? (23)

3.  What happened to the disciples as they were in the boat on the lake? (v24)

4.  What did Peter ask Jesus to do? (v28)

5.  What did Jesus do and say when Peter got in trouble? (v31)

Live it:

What scares you more than anything else in life?

What step of trust do you need to take today?

What will help you remember to keep your eyes on Jesus?

Remember, Jesus said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible." Matthew 19:26 (NLT)

Are you facing an impossible situation today?  Then there's room for God to do what only He can do in your life.  Focus on God, envision His presence, and trust Him to deliver, then get out of the boat!
