LEADERSHIP - Leading by example

One of the marks of a growing church is a growing leadership.  Yesterday, in the EMIM rally (Every Member In Ministry), those currently serving accepted with great joy the call to move up as ministry leaders.  Today, we will talk more about what that means and what is required.

Author and teacher, John Maxwell states that "Everything rises and falls on leadership."  That's true whether in business, the church, or the home.  If leadership stumbles others will fall as a result.  What does the Bible have to say about leaders?

Love and truth form a good leader; sound leadership is founded on loving integrity. Proverbs 20:28 (MSG)

We defined a ministry leader as one who exhibits positive influence coupled with the power of God.  Anywhere you serve you minister.  And wherever you minister, you are in a position to lead others as you use the gifts God has given you in order to impact the lives of others.  As you think about ministry leadership, reflect on the following passage and let it be a guide for you to lead by.

Philippians 2:1-5

Paul said there are 4 qualities we receive as the result of being Christ followers.  What are they? (v1)

How do we show we are in unity as the body of Christ? (v2)

What's the antidote for selfishness and looking out for your interests only? (vv3-4)

What should be the same as Christ? (v5)

What can you do this week to demonstrate humility through your relationships?
