Truth - Day 4 Disco Lessons Part 2
The truth is, there are times when we all succumb to the tyranny of the urgent. Such was my yesterday and not getting the devotional written. So today we get back into our study of the ten principles found in every growing Christian's life as we look at Part 2 of Disco Lessons.
What we've learned to far is that, according to Holman's Bible Dictionary,
"Discipline comes from a Latin word disco which means to learn
or get to know, a direct kind of acquaintance with something or someone.
Discipline refers to the process by which one learns a way of life." To be disciplined then is, in a sense, learning to
dance with God. As we study the remainder of Hebrews 12:1-13, see if you can identify how God works in our lives to teach us, to dance with us, so that we draw close to Him in all situations in life.
Think, think, think:Who was or is your favorite teacher? In what ways have they taught you that has prepared you for life; both good and bad? What are the most encouraging words you remember from a parent, teacher, or mentor that had a huge impact on your life?
Study it: Hebrews 12:1-13 with a focus on 5-11
Dig in:
1. What are we taught that God does in the lives of His children? (12:5-6)
2. What does God's discipline prove about God's feelings toward us? (12:6-7)
3. If a person never experiences God's discipline, what conclusion does His Word draw us to? (12:8)
4. Does discipline seem good at the time? Yet what are the promised results? (12:11)
Application zone:
Where would you be right now if it weren't for God's loving discipline?
Do you have an accountability partner you've given permission to speak into your life to help you see when you're beginning to drift?
According to Hebrews 12:2, we receive encouragement by, "keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Hebrews 12:2a (NLT). How are you focusing on Christ today?
Is there anything in your life that is an obstacle to your receiving of "the peaceful harvest of right living" (v11) that you need to confess and turn from today?
