Greetings,
Do you remember me saying, in my "Almost-End-of-the-Year" Newsletter, that I intended to make some changes in my habits in 2010 that would promote better health?
When I shared my intention, I informally set up accountability with you. To be true to myself and to you, I need to answer the question, "Are you doing what you said you would do?"
One of my goals was to get more sleep. By "choosing" that, I have made it a priority to get more than 8 hours of sleep each night. And I am! I am really enjoying my hours in that magical, mystical state called sleep.
My Insomnia audio CD has been out of stock for awhile, but I plan to make the changes needed and get it back in my online store, in case you need some help in this area.
Another goal I stated was to increase the steps I walk daily to 10,000 a day. That was a big commitment.
What has helped me toward achieving that goal is that I have been wintering in a mild environment and live near a beach. Daily, I walk along the shore, both at the start and end of my work day. I am passionate about seeing the sunset each day, and having an hour in nature.
On days when I feel too busy and might not make time for myself, I walk for my dog. It helps to make sure I get out for the dog, even if I don't feel like doing it for myself! My joy is doubled, seeing him run along the water's edge simply for the sheer joy of moving.
How do I know if I am walking as much as I say? I use my Omron pedometer (more info below). Last month I found that I averaged a little over 10,000 steps a day for 6 days out of 7. While I intended that number as a daily average, I am happy with the 6/7 of the goal. Six days "on" with one day of rest is my revised commitment.

How are YOUR personal commitments/goals/intentions coming? What do you want to do, to be, to have?
And where do you need to recommit or re-define your goals? Where do you need to find a new plan or strategy?
Did you intend to begin, or renew, a regular yoga program or other exercise?
Are you like the person who said,
"The yoga DVD I ordered in a fit of New Year's energy is still sitting on my desk. Apparently, if you want a leaner body and inner peace, you actually have to unwrap the thing and use it."
Most of us have the best of intentions towards our health and well being. And we can picture the end results. We want to look and feel and be our best.
Getting there is a different matter, replacing old habits with new patterns of behavior.
Whether it's not doing the right thing often enough or doing the wrong thing too often, success or failure is often determined by how consistent you are with taking daily action towards what you want.
Desiring success is the first step.
The commitment of setting a time to do yoga and getting yourself on your yoga mat is ultimately what enables you to accomplish a goal of adding daily yoga to your life.
And remember, six out of seven days isn't bad.
Let me know how you are doing. What questions do you have? How I can help you?
Do you need some variety?
