Welcome!
Thank you for being part of my Yoga for the Rest of Us community.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It is the time where we fit as many friends and family as possible around the table, eat our favorite foods, tell stories, and reflect on what has been and what's to come.
I like to ask, "What are you most thankful for this year--the first thing that comes to mind?" The answers span the spectrum from small to huge, from esoteric to mundane. Read the end of this newsletter for my 5 year old granddaughter's thoughts.
One friend who has had a very difficult year said she is grateful for making it through to now. She is hopeful for a fresh start to 2010. (See below for my idea of a good way to begin the new year!)
If you celebrated thanksgiving in the U.S., what were the heartfelt gratitudes expressed at your table?
My friend Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles proposes "practicing uncommon appreciation" regularly. One application of this is to take the next 5 minutes and look around you. What is in your life that you are thankful for? Capture everything!
For me right in this moment, it is the computer I am using to write to you, the internet system that makes this communication possible, my typing teacher way back in high school who taught me to type, the quiet moment I have created to take this time to think, and on and on.
As we head into the end of the year, do you feel there is less time for yourself, and that there is more to do? I remind you that this is NOT the time to stop doing yoga, or taking time for mediation, prayer or contemplation. You need their centering effects!
In fact, if you are not doing these regularly, ADD them to each day! You will be delighted how a little of these self-practices energize you and even improve your mood. I am smiling just thinking about it!
Thank you for being with me through this newsletter. I appreciate your support. I close my eyes, and somehow, connect with you right now, my heart to your heart. We are connected when we make it so. Namaste.

| Best Start to the New Year |
|
| A way to motivate yourself to focus on health is to create a vision board for health.
Make a collage of pictures, affirmations, and things that represent health, vitality, and the way you want to look and feel. Look at this vision board daily for inspiration.
Your vision board can also include your desires for abundance, happiness, good relationships, and how you want your environments look or feel.
I make a vision board each year. Then I take a picture of it and install the photo as my computer's screen saver so that image comes up whenever I turn on my computer. I see it every day.
Please join me January 1-3 for a special workshop that will combine making your vision board with great yoga that you will love doing! A retreat like this is a great start to the new year.

| Deep Breathing |
|
| Deep breathing is a great way to calm yourself and energize your body.
A good deep breathing technique is to sit comfortably, breathe in for 5 counts, hold your breath for 5 counts, and breathe out for 5 counts.
Do this for 1 minute. |
