silver spring local first
This year Councilmember Ervin secured funding to support local businesses through the creation of a Local First Program for Silver Spring and Wheaton.  Local First is a nationally recognized program that emphasizes the importance of patronizing locally owned businesses and helps owners market, network, and make collective purchases.  In December, Local First Silver Spring will begin with a comprehensive brochure of local businesses in the Central Business District.
Pedestrian Safety Initiative
dale drive traffic improvements
Last Tuesday, the County Executive proposed fully funding the Pedestrian Safety Initiative that he and I initiated with revenues generated by the County's Speed Camera program.  According to State law, funds collected by speed cameras are to be spent on improving public and pedestrian safety.  The additional $4.8 million dollars will help build our pedestrian infrastructure
and make walking safer and more accessible.
