Councilmember Valerie Ervin is the lead sponsor of a peace resolution urging the cessation of combat operations in Iraq.  Next Monday September 22, at the Town Hall Meeting, "Can Montgomery County Help End the War?" we will discuss the relationship of the costs of the occupation of Iraq to the financial and economic problems facing the people of our county and nation and to the budget difficulties of Montgomery County. The forum will also address the proper role of local government in tackling the concerns of citizens for which the county government does not have legislative authority.

About Councilmember Valerie Ervin
Councilmember Ervin is the first African American woman to serve on the Montgomery County Council.  Councilmember Ervin is Chair of the Education Committee and a member  of the Management and Fiscal Policy Committee.  
 
As a Silver Spring resident for more than two decades, she is keenly aware of the issues that affect District 5 and is committed to a proactive legislative agenda that will improve the lives of residents. Councilmember Ervin is a former member of the Board of Education, PTSA co-president of Montgomery Blair High School, representative on the NAACP Parents' Council and founding member of the Blacks United for Excellence in Education.
