VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES                        JUNE 2010
The summer has finally arrived! Kick it off in style by volunteering with Girl Scouts - from helping at a camp, an office, or from home, to designing a handout, making phone calls, or working with a group of girls...and much more! For more information about volunteering, please contact volunteers@girlscoutseasternmass.org or 888-9GIRL-SCOUT.
Pick Up the Phone to Give Girls a Life-Changing Experience
Waltham and North Andover, June 16
Summer camp is a life-changing experience for many girls, especially those who could not be there without financial assistance. Girl Scouts is holding a phone-a-thon to call our list of previous campership donors to remind them to donate to the campaign again this year to send more girls to camp. We need volunteers to help make these phone calls. A script will be provided prior to the night of the event so that volunteers feel prepared and staff will be present to answer questions and give assistance. Come have fun with other volunteers, eat pizza, and be entered into a raffle for every ten calls made! Please come and help us send 450 girls to camp this summer! The phone-a-thons will take place on June 16 from 5-8p in our Waltham and North Andover offices - come for some or all of the time - every phone call helps! Can't make it but still want to help? Donate to send girls to camp today! For more information, please contact Allison Landry at alandry@girlscoutseasternmass.org or 857-453-5336.
Be a Camp Nurse for the Day!
Norton, June 19
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is hosting a day at camp for girls with disabilities who are in our center-based programs. They will have fun experiencing the outdoors and camp program, and we need a certified nurse on site for the day to be there with them! This fun opportunity takes place from 8-5p on June 19 in Norton. No previous Girl Scout experience is necessary, but volunteer will need to speak to program coordinator ahead of time to discuss the expectations and needs of the girls. Simple Redesign of Graphic Handout
Virtual, completion by June 30
We are looking for someone reasonably savvy in Microsoft Word or Publisher to redesign a simple graphic of the support structure available to troop volunteers. We have the content, we just need you to create the design for us! This shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to do. We may accept several volunteers and select the best version. You can volunteer for this opportunity from home or in one of our offices. For more information, contact Jenny Duquette at jduquette@girlscoutseasternmass.org or 781-373-4312.
Assist with Volunteer Recruitment & Management
Virtual/Waltham/Boston, flexible (6 month commitment)
We are looking for a volunteer to help promote and manage our volunteer opportunities on various volunteer recruitment websites and possibly help to sort through emails of volunteer inquiries. Most work could be done off site, wherever internet access is available. This would probably be about 8 hours a month and require a 6 month commitment. Training and support will be provided. While most of the work could be done at any time and place with an internet connection, the volunteer would need to come on site (Waltham or Boston) for an initial orientation, training, and to meet the supervisor, and then for occasional meetings afterwards. The volunteer should be internet savvy, and we have a preference for someone who is a good writer, in tune with the needs of volunteers, and semi-familiar with Girl Scouts. For more information, contact Jenny Duquette at jduquette@girlscoutseasternmass.org or 781-373-4312.
