Welcome to our November newsletter!
I've just returned from Canada where I was an assessor at a Toronto Yoga Centre. A number of candidates were demonstrating their teaching skills in order to become certified Iyengar yoga instructors.
It is a long journey to the other side of the world, and at times I question myself about the wisdom of this commitment. On the negative side, I know there is some disruption to the yoga classes at the studio because I don't always have another teacher to substitute for me in classes. The trip is tiring and expensive.
On the positive side, I gain a lot of experience and knowledge by observing and evaluating the teachers there, and that in turn helps with the training program here in Hong Kong. There is a reciprocal relationship, so Hong Kong trainees can be assessed for their certification in Canada. Perhaps soon there will be enough new teachers in HK that it will be more economical to bring three assessors here.
Sometimes when I'm away I hear that students have decided not to go to class until I return. I hope everyone comes to understand that we have a group of well-trained Iyengar teachers at the studio - you can get a high quality class from any and all of them. It is not good to get too attached to your teachers. It is better to be attached to the teachings.
I look forward to seeing you in class this month. Check out the upcoming events listed below.

Yoga Forum! |
| Visit and take part in our new Yoga Forum!
The Iyengar Yoga Forum is an online resource designed to help teachers, teacher trainees and students share tips, not just about their practice, but also things such as bargain yoga gear, vegetarian food, books and more.
The discussions will also help teachers and teacher trainees better understand the problems students are having with their practice and fine tune their classes to help. Joining is easy; just click on this green Yoga Forum link or on this IYHK contact page link.
Scroll down the Contact Us page and click on the heading: We also encourage discussion through the Iyengar Forum. You will land on our Forum.
See the gold beehive on the left top corner of this article? You'll see it on our Forum home page as well. Under it is a row of links - at the end of the row is a register link. Click and sign up - you will become a member with full access to all the discussions. | |
