Linda ShevloffWelcome to our August newsletter!

Many thanks to Lauren Cox who has been the principal teacher at the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong throughout July. Lauren is now off to India and a month of yoga study throughout August. We all wish her well and look forward to her return to Hong Kong in the near future.

The August schedule at the studio will be interrupted by a break from August 6 - 17. Classes are on in the first week and then again in the last half of the month. I am hopeful that when the summer vacation period is over, students will return with renewed vigor and relaxed minds.

In the past month I have been away from classes and have had lots of time for reflection. It has been helpful to step back from a busy life and see it from a different perspective. I recognize that I can get too busy and lose the balance I seek. This can happen in any walk of life, even the yogic one. As I return to yoga teaching this month, I do so with my best intentions to deepen this practice.

Here is a beautiful thought for contemplation by the medieval Persian poet, Rumi:

"Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don't open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

"Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground."

Namaste,
Linda

Guruji BKS Iyengar
"Sometimes the body and mind yield to willpower and sometimes they rebel. Do you have a problem part that makes the practice difficult for you? An injured knee? A stiff back? That is your problem child. Learn how to deal with it and how to nurture it, as you would a child who had problems that needed extra love and attention. Do not bother about failures either. Failures in life lead one to determination and in having the necessary philosophical approach."

red bamboo block Yoga Library Idea:  Interested?
lovely arbutus blossomWould students find it useful to have a lending library at The Iyengar Centre?

To do this, we need some help. Perhaps someone has a small bookshelf to put  along the wall by the door? Would someone be willing to catologue books and put cards inside for lending?  Perhaps you have some good books to share?

Any volunteers?
