Yoga family practices their way to healthy mind & body
A mother's influence
In her late 20s,
Michelle Ling was plagued by stiff
neck, tight shoulders, backache and knee pain which
became insufferable over the next decade. Her
physical issues multiplied as her sleep was
interrupted nightly. For two years she saw a
chiropractor and physiotherapist.
Three years ago, she was introduced to Iyengar Yoga.
After a few classes, she was surprised to feel the
beginning of a complete transformation: the absence
of pain and a good nightly sleep.
?I know that yoga,? Michelle says, ?which
is a union of mind and body, will keep me looking
young and
feeling energetic for years to come!?
Her contagious enthusiasm is passed on
to other family members. Michelle's daughter Carol,
who has scoliosis, admits her first year of weekly
classes weren't the best. But she persevered. ?I
am
glad I didn?t quit at the beginning,? she says.
?Now yoga has become a part of my life and I
intend to
continue doing it for the benefit of both my mind
and body.?
One year ago, Michelle brought her husband, Victor
Ling to an Iyengar Yoga workshop. The avid tennis
player was impressed by the participants' fine
posture. He's delighted that yoga relieves him of
chronic pain particularly in his neck, shoulder and
elbow. When he plays tennis he recovers faster than
before.
Going clockwise, starting with Victor Ling are his
wife, Michelle, their daughters Carol and Anne,
their sister in law Clara who is expecting a baby
and attending pre-natal yoga classes and Michelle's
sister Yvonne.
