On September 27, 2010, the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 was signed into law by President Obama.  The intent of this act is to extend $12 Billion in tax cuts, create a $30 Billion Small Business Lending Fund available through healthy banks and strengthen the SBA's (Small Business Administration) core programs.

On October 13, 2010, Senator Mary Landrieu wrote a letter of clarification to Department of Defense Secretary Robert Gates.  The primary purpose of her letter was to clearly define the intent of the US Congress, specifically related to Section 1347 of the Act.  It states that each of the small business entities mentioned (and listed at left) are on equal footing for the small business set-asides and that contracting officers should not give priority to any particular classification of small business.
