New Estronex Analytes
The updated Estronex Profile has new analytes. The method for this assay has been changed from immunoassay to liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrographic detection (LC-MS/MS).

Learn more about how these method changes lead to an alteration in analytes and interpratations in the first page of the sample report.

Metametrix Memo
Greetings!

February is American Heart Month!  The Cardiovascular Health Profile can help individuals assess risk for cardiovascular diseases and avoid becoming a statistic. New audio podcasts from our Toxicity Audio Series with environmental health specialist, Dr. Walter J. Crinnion are also featured.

The Applying Laboratory Evaluations seminar is February 20/21 - join us - there are a few seats remaining! The Integrative Healthcare Symposium (IHS) is highlighted in upcoming events this month. Also in this issue are updates on the Estronex Profile and the AccuChem PCB and Volatile Solvents Profiles. Read more on all of these topics below!

More from the Toxicity Audio Series with Dr. Crinnion!
Doctor's officeSeven Part Audio Series on Toxic Burden
In January's memo, we introduced a toxicity audio series with information on understanding total toxic burden and it's affect on health in audio installment one. Learn more in the next three installments below.

Why Should we Test for Toxic Exposure?
Dr. Eve Bralley and Dr. Walter Crinnion discuss toxicity and the environment. Why should we use tests to evaluate toxins in our body? Listen to Part 2

How do Toxins Affect Mitochondria?
Is  chronic fatigue a common issue?  Dr. Bralley and Dr. Crinnion discuss the role of mitochondria, known as "cellular power plans" that provide most of our cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Listen to Part 3

Immunotoxicity - First to the Party
Take a deeper look into how toxins affect the immune system. Dr. Crinnion says immunotoxicity is usually the first problem that shows up in a person's history. Are chronic infections due to chemical exposure? Listen to Part 4

Assess Heart Health with the Cardiovascular Health Profilecardio logo
According the American Heart Association, an estimated 80,000,000 American adults (one in three) have one or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The Cardiovascular Health Profile can help assess risk of CVD by measuring conventional and innovative risk factors beyond the standard blood lipid markers. Key chronic inflammatory markers include c-reactive protein, ferritin, and fibrinogen. Oxidant stress factors such as homocysteine, CoQ10, and lipid peroxides are also assessed.

New Analytes Added to Toxicity Profiles
accuchem logos AccuChem PCBs & Volatile Solvents Profiles
PCBs were used in industrial insulators and lubricants and were banned in the 1970s.  PCB 74, known as 2, 4, 4', 5-Tetrachlorobiphenyl, may have negative effects on the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems as well as harm childhood development.  PCB 156, 2,3,3',4,4',5-Hexachlorobiphenyl, is thought to lead to birth defects, developmental delays, immune system related problems, and an increase in risk for cancer.  Both of these have been added to the PCB Profile.

Volatile solvents, inhaled as fumes, are part of our everyday exposure to toxins.  Metametrix has added iso-octane to this panel, which is a component of gasoline and produced on a massive scale.  This neurotoxin can cause confusion, dizziness, headaches, and nausea.
