| The Innovative GI Effects Stool Profile |
The "gold standard" of stool analysis
The GI Effects Stool Analysis Profile uses DNA analysis to assess the complete microbiota in the gut. In the last decade, DNA sequencing has played a pivotal role in our knowledge on microbial diversity and is the new gold standard for identification of bacteria in microbiology.
Culture techniques have significant weaknesses including:
- Bacterial growth in transport, since live bacteria are needed for measurement
- Quasi quantification (quantification is based on subjective measures)
- Presumptive diagnosis (diagnosis is based on probability or presumption)
- Inability to accurately evaluate predominate bacteria

Additional Learning Resources on GI Effects
Clinicians choose the GI Effects Stool Profile for a variety of different symptoms in their patients. Below are some audio and visual presentations showing an overall look at the application of the GI Effects Profile including a case study on a patient with irritable bowel syndrome, and another showing the significance of bifidobacter, a healthy bacteria found in the gut. Additionally, we have a podcast from Dr. Todd LePine from this year's Institute for Functional Medicine's annual symposium in Hollywood, Florida. Check out these additional learning resource links below!
