All are invited to join us for this inspirational event!  Members only may honor a heroine, cost is $10 per heroine to defray expenses. Don't live in Seattle? You can still honor a heroine, we'll announce it at the event Monday and mail her certificate.

From the President
Dear Caucus Members and Friends,

The 2009 elections were a mixed bag for women candidates and for women's representation on local city councils.

In King County, women made up 32% of city councils before these elections, and only 29% after. Big winners were the cities of Kirkland, Medina, and Woodinville that all gained two women councilmembers. Cities that lost women include Beaux Arts, North Bend, Carnation (who now have no women on their councils), and Sammamish and Burien that both lost two women.

Seattle lost an opportunity for its first woman mayor in 83 years when Jan Drago was defeated in the primary election; and while we lost one women mayor with Cindy Ryu in Shoreline; we gained a woman mayor when Tacoma Councilmember Marilyn Strickland won her campaign!

Great women won across the state - our priority candidate Amber Waldref won a seat on the Spokane City Council, Debbi Lester won her race for the Bainbridge City Council, and Kimberly Cole took a seat on the Lynnwood City Council, among many others.

Congratulations to all of our endorsed women candidates.  While some did not win their campaigns, all showed great courage by stepping forward to lead. They worked hard, ran great campaigns, raised the level of discourse on important issues in their communities, and are role models for all of us!

Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!

Candidate Reception
Thank you to those who attended (and the committee that organized!) our fun endorsed candidate reception in September.

The event was held at the Youngstown Cultural Center, an historic schoolhouse, with the theme "What did you want to be when you grew up?".  Our endorsed candidates shared their aspirations, and a few shared their fun schoolgirl photos!  Can you tell which of endorsed candidates is featured in this photo with her senator, Slade Gorton?

Thank you to volunteer Rubi Romero for making this video of the event!

New Education and Training Chair, Jaime Smith!
NWPC-WA Banner Congrats to Jaime Smith, our new NWPC-WA Education and Training Chair.  Jaime has been active with the Caucus for several years, she served as our Pierce County Chair for two years and representative to the national board for one year.

We're thrilled to have Jaime back leading our education and training programs, and just in time for our Spring Campaign Training for Women. Look for more info about this day of training for candidates, prospective candidates, and campaign staff/volunteers soon!
