Last month The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Seattle defense lawyer Jenny Durkan as the new U.S. Attorney for Western Washington. Jenny is a high-end private defense attorney in Seattle. She is the second woman to hold the job and is likely the first openly gay appointed federal prosecutor in the country.
President Obama has nominated Rosanna Peterson of Spokane for for a federal judical vacancy in Eastern Washington.
Rosanna is a respected attorney and professor of law and has written and taught widely on diversity, cultural education, race, and sexual harassment.
In the Eastern District, which extends east from the Cascades to Idaho, and from Canada to Oregon, a woman has never served as an Article III federal judge, although the district is over one hundred years old.
