2010 Provisional Horses of the Year
2010 Provisional Riders of the Year

Area IV uses the same point system as USEA. Points reflected on the USEA leaderboard will be same as Area IV Leaderboard points. Visit www.useventing.com for a description of USEA's Point System. USEA does not use a weighting system for Juniors, etc. for their Year-End awards, nor will Area IV.  In 2010, awards will be presented at each level but will not be presented for Overall Horse/Rider of the Year as in the past.

To be eligible for Horse of the Year Awards, the owner of the horse must be a USEA member and his or her residence, as recorded with USEA, is in Area IV. To be eligible for Rider of the Year Awards, the rider must be a USEA member and his or her residence, as recorded with USEA, is in Area IV.

Katie Lindsay Awarded Wofford Cup
Congratulations to Area IV's own Katie Lindsay. Katie was the recipient of the prestigious Wofford Cup at the U.S. Eventing Association's Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, AZ, December 8 - 12, 2010. Presented by Jim Wofford, the Wofford Cup is presented each year to a USEA member for outstanding contributions to our sport.

Katie has a long and esteemed history with the equestrian community in Wayne, IL and has worked tirelessly officiating at events throughout the country. She has been a competitor, Wayne-DuPage Hunt MFH, a technical delegate, organizer and FEI Steward. She has served on numerous USEA committees, the USEA Board of Governors, and chair of the USEA Appreciation Awards, Competitions, and Organizers Committees. Katie is also a member of the Eventing Technical Committee and Ad Hoc Awards Committee for the USEF.

Katie was the driving force in organizing what was originally the Wayne Horse Trials. After securing sponsorship from Maui Jim Sunglasses, this event grew to include advanced and FEI competitions. The Maui Jim Horse Trials became a destination event in Area IV for riders throughout the country from novice through three-star level. Thank you, Katie for your dedication and contributions to the sport of eventing. Area IV looks forward to more from Katie in the future.
Two Eventing Derbies Scheduled for 2011

Mark your calendars. A really good date came up at Lamplight so I nabbed it for a second 2011 Eventing Derby. The good news is that we have two weekends confirmed - April 15-17 and July 1-3. We'll run Starter through Preliminary divisions at both competitions. This year, I am not conflicting with any recognized event in the Area so riders wont have to choose one or the other. April will be the first competition on the Area so it should be fun - and maybe a bit wild too! July will be a good time for a tune up as it falls mid season.

The tentative schedule calls for Friday - Ride a Test for a USEF judge for a nominal fee and "familiarization," partial schooling in the Grand Prix ring for no charge. All entries will be handled by evententries.com.

It is somewhat doubtful whether we'll have Maui Jim again so I'm planning on doing a bit of fund raising so we can again offer some cash prizes and keep it affordable. We will offer some prizes and of course the opportunity to ride at Lamplight with a "professional" organizing staff in place to make things run as smoothy as possible.

A prize list and entry blank will be developed in the next month and will be available on various websites and in several locations.

Heritage Park N3D & T3D Qualifications
Heritate 3Day The Mid-America Combined Training Association is pleased to announce that the 2011 USEA recognized Heritage Park Horse Trials in Olathe, KS will offer both a Training Level 3-Day Event and Novice Level 3-Day Event at their August 27-28th event.

Training Three-Day Event (T3D): Per the USEA rules, T3D is open to competitors of any age, on horses four years of age or older. Both the competitor and the horse must have obtained NQR's at four horse trials at the Training Level or higher, one of which must be attained as a combination. A competitor established at the Preliminary level may compete on a horse which has obtained 2 NQR's at the Training Level or higher.

Novice Three-Day Event (N3D): At this time, the USEA does not recognize the Novice 3-Day event. The N3D will be run in conjunction with the USEA recognized Heritage Park Horse Trials, but is not USEA recognized and therefore competitors will not be able to earn USEA points or use placings for AEC qualifications. The Novice 3-Day at the Heritage Park Horse Trials will be open to competitors of any age, on horses 4 years of age or older. Both the competitor and the horse must have obtained NQRs at four horse trials at the Novice Level or higher, two of which must be attained as a combination.
