Cindy Burge Memorial ICP Grant for Area IV Instructors
Area IV Adult Riders

The Cindy Burge Memorial ICP Grant is offered each year by each USEA Area's Adult Rider Program to one of its Area's instructors who meet the grant's qualification standards and is selected as a recipient.  These qualification standards include merit as an instructor, service to the sport, potential to provide future benefit to the sport, and demonstration of compatibility with the educational goals of ICP and intention to be assessed for ICP certification.

Area 4 will be awarding one $250 grant this year to be used toward the Assessment Fee.  If you are planning on taking the ICP Assessment this year, held at Carriage Station Farm, Lexington, KY on October 26-29, please read the Cindy Burge Memorial ICP Grant page on the USEA website: http://useventing.com/education.php?section=adultriders&id=743

Submit your application to the Area 4 Adult Rider Coordinator, Kathy Kerns, at adultriders@usea4.org

Include how you plan on giving back to the Adult Rider program with your responses to the categories listed on the web page.

If more than one candidate applies for the grant, the Area 4 Council will judge the entries.  Entries are due by September 26, 2010.

Reminder: If you're planning on taking the Assessment, your application has to be in to the USEA 60 days before the date of the Assessment.

August Wayne DuPage One Day Horse Trials Wrap Up

With a bright blue sky above and low humidity, the Sunday August 15 Wayne DuPage Horse Trials One Day welcomed back many competitors from the July One Day as well as many first time Wayne DuPage One Day competitors.

The One Day format has found its niche and its supporters as many riders, parents, "significant others" and spectators repeatedly commented to the organizing committee and the show officials that they "love this format". A few days after the show, one competitor remarked that because she was home by 2:30 (the day of the show) as far as her children were concerned, she hadn't even been gone that day!

Although multiple riders had multiple horses (one rider from MI brought a Preliminary, Training and two Novice horses) the competition finished on time and without any scheduling issues. Many riders took advantage of the optional one day dress code that allows riders to compete wearing a light colored shirt, without neckwear, in all three phases and permitting them to go from phase to phase without a "costume" change! Likewise many riders were seen competing in the show jump arena wearing their protective vest and pinney and then leisurely walking to the cross country start box.
