First Adult Riders' Camp A Success
by John Clarke, USEA Area IV Chairman

The first Adult Riders Camp held in the southern part of Area IV was a great success. Ten riders from as far away as Iowa and Oklahoma City came to Briar Fox Farm in Augusta, Kansas and had a blast!

The first two days were individual dressage instruction given by local trainer and "r" judge, Bonnie Griest. Normally dressage is the least liked discipline but campers were enthusiatic about the insights and analysis Bonnie was able to give them.
Stadium and cross country training was given by another local instructor, John Staples. John is a USEA Level III Certified Instructor and serves on the USEF Safety Committee.Campers were split into groups dependent on their and their horses' experience as some campers had brought horses new to them or with little or no previous exposure to eventing.

The weather was some of the hottest of the year but early starts allowed everyone to get their training before the temperatures were too high. Campers were also treated to a pizza party on the deck at Briar Fox and held a farewell Mexican dinner at a local restaurant. Probably one of the most important outcomes was the friendships formed during the camp with campers arranging to meet at future Area IV HTs and to return for next year's camp - see you there!
Wayne DuPage Horse Trials AUGUST One Day, "Repeat"
The Wayne DuPage Horse Trials organizing committee is thrilled with the response from the July One Day Horse Trials and is looking forward to its AUGUST 15 One Day Horse Trials. Competitors, spectators, volunteers, and show officials hailed the one day format, on site stabling, the layout of the various components of the show (competition areas, parking, stabling etc.) and the fact that the competition was held entirely in one venue (Pratts' Wayne Woods Forest Preserve Wayne, IL).

In keeping with the grand tradition of the Chicago Bulls, the Wayne DuPage Horse Trials is looking to "repeat" the success of the July HT in Aug. Among the many "repeaters" is on site stabling. The large number of stalls used during the July show confirms the decision by show management to provide that convenience for those wishing to take advantage of it. However, there is still no mandate for stabling and competitors wishing to do so are welcome to work out of their trailers without a grounds fee! Competitors intending to use a stall should take advantage of the lower price for stabling of only $50.00 which will be in effect through July 21. The cost of using a stall will increase for stall requests made after July 21. (See Omni listing for details)

MJ Forsberg Bowen
When it became evident late last year that the Maui Jim Horse Trials were destined to become a thing of the past, Mike Dalton, the CEO of Maui Jim, Inc., asked what we could do to keep the tradition of the event going given its new legally imposed constraints. He generously agreed to continue his company's support of a competition designed to include both experienced riders and riders new to the sport. Thus the Eventing Derby Series was created that would take place entirely on the landscaped grounds of Lamplight Equestrian Center in July and in August.
