Area IV Annual Meeting Recap

The USEA Area IV Annual Meeting was held at the Four Points Sheraton Kansas City Airport on February 21st.

As with most equestrian endeavors, this year's attendance at the Area IV annual meeting was down. With the numbers down, it led to a very interesting meeting as the morning was spent in a round table discussion about our sport. Many topics were covered and everyone talked for about three hours.

One of the questions that arose was the increasing cost of participating in horse trials. Some of the competitors questioned why entries and stabling were increasing in cost. Organizers also expressed concern over the increasing costs of running horse trials. Both sides determined that it would be beneficial for competitors to become more educated in the cost of running a horse trial. Four organizers have offered to submit their financial information so that we can put together the costs involved in running a horse trial on both public and private land and the income that is earned so that both parties can become more informed.
Area IV Adult Riders
Area IV Adult Riders The Adult Riders session was the last session of the Area IV Annual Meeting - just before breaking up for a bar visit before dinner. In spite of that, the interest level and energy were still high.

We talked about Adult Riders requesting educational
opportunities. We have a number of clinic/camp opportunities in the works. One clinic is already set, see the website http://www.camstock.net/clinicinfoevent09.html. Another,
a camp in Minnesota/Wisconsin is in the final planning stages. And another possibility in Lake Geneva is being fleshed out. Two others are in the early planning stages. We also discussed offering mini-clinics and course walks at horse trials. Camie Stockhausen volunteered to organize a mini-clinic on proper stud use at Mill Creek Pony Club HT at Longview. It will be after the official course walk and will be FREE to Adult Rider members, $5 to others. The money collected will come back to the AR fund. Camie and Beth Stoker also volunteered to allow ARs to come along on course walks. Details to follow.
