XC Schooling Opportunities at Longview Horse Park
MillCreekLogo Mill Creek Pony Club will host several open cross-country schooling days at Longview Horse Park in Grandview, MO.  The cost is $35 per horse per day or $50 per horse for the weekend. Overnight stabling is available with reservations.

Maui Jim to Sponsor Show Jumping Phase of Wellpride AECs
Maui Jim Maui Jim, Inc. of Peoria, Illinois will return as name sponsor of the Show Jumping phase of the Wellpride American Eventing Championships, September 10-14, 2008. This is a repeat sponsorship from the 2007 AEC's which marked the first year that this National Championship of Eventing was hosted at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois. The 2007 competition attracted a record 563 entries from 42 States, three Canadian provinces and Great Britain and Australia and also featured the USEA/Spalding Labs Young Event Horse Championships.
Extraordinary Rule Changes for 2008
 Competitors, it's definitely worth your while to read these! The rule changes below were approved by the USEF Executive Committee on February 19, 2008, effective immediately.

EV113 Dress

.4  SPURS. Spurs may be worn at any time. Spurs are required in the dressage test at the Intermediate and Advanced levels. Spurs capable of wounding a horse are forbidden. Spurs must be of smooth metal. If there is a shank it must not be longer than 3.5 cm (1 3/8 inches) and must point only towards the rear. Rowels are not permitted except as in 5 (c) (below).  If the shank is curved, the spurs must be worn only with the shank directed downwards.  Metal or plastic spurs with round hard plastic or metal knobs are allowed ("Impuls" spur). "Dummy spurs" with no shank and swan neck spurs are allowed.  

EV174 Cross Country Course Advisors  

A course advisor shall be appointed by the Federation for certain horse trials and Three-Day Events as designated by the Federation Eventing Committee. The Course Advisor will approve the design of the proposed course, including: the distanced covered, the terrain and the condition and quality of the track; and the number of obstacles, their construction and variety and marking or flagging, the number of combinations , and the appropriateness of the level to the competition. The course advisors will provide the course designer (CD) and the technical delegate (TD) with a report which indicates any changes, either recommend or essential, to be made to each fence on the course. After inspection of the Cross Country course and prior to the event, the TD will complete the Cross Country Course Advisor Report for return to the Federation with the TD report. All essential changes must be made or the fence shall be removed from the course for the competition. For Show Jumping courses, the TD shall include a copy of the Show Jumping Courses, as posted at the competition, with the TD report. All essential Show Jumping changes must be made.

Becky Holder Clinic: May 24-25

BeckyHolderArea IV's own Becky Holder will conduct a XC clinic May 24-25, 2008 in the Pratt's Wayne Woods, site of the Wayne DuPage Horse Trials and AEC.  Becky's many riding accomplishments include being named alternate for the 2000 US Eventing Team in Sydney and a veteran of the Winter Training List. Becky and her eventing partner, Courageous Comet, have won the Advanced horse trials at Poplar Place, Pine Top Spring Advanced HT, and Sporting Days in Aiken as well as the 2007 Advanced level of the Gold Cup Series.  Becky also won the Intermediate Gold Cup Series in 2006 riding Ann Bower's horse, Rejuvenate

Becky trains out of Carriage House Farm in Hugo, Minnesota, where Becky coaches riders competing at all levels. She is the instructor for the Junior Developing Rider Program (JDRP) in Minnesota and has served as the USEA 2005 & 2007 Area IV Young Rider Coach.

Jonathon Holling Clinic: May 31-June 1

 The Area IV Young Riders Program will host clinic a clinic with Jonathon Holling May 31-June 1st at Hunter Oaks Farm in Bloomington, IL.  Cost will be $275 with a $25 discount to Area IV Young Riders' Program Members. Stabling is additional. For those of you aiming for NAJYRC or NJYR at Midsouth, it is mandatory that you attend at least ONE YR Sponsored Jon Holling Clinic!

An accomplished international three day event competitor,Jonathan first competed at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event in 1998,and has been a top international rider for the United States ever since. Most recently he was 8th at this year's Rolex Kentucky CCI**** and he is aiming for the Burghley Horse Trials in September. As a result of Jonathan's successful CCI and CIC schedule, he has been included on the United States Eventing Team winter training lists several times, and was an alternate for the 2003 Pan American Games Team.

Winter of 2007 was the most successful yet with a win at the Red Hills CIC ***W on Lion King and a 7th place finish at the same competition on Direct Merger. Top placings at Fairhill CCI *** along with Red Hills and The Fork CIC ***W put Jonathan on the short list for the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil. In addition to Jonathan's competitive goals, he runs a training and sales business with his wife Jennifer in Ocala, Florida.

Jonathan coached the Area IV NAYRC Team in 2006.
