The Migraine-Food Connection by Tamara Brown, MPH, RD, LD
If you have ever experienced the throbbing, pulsating pain, nausea or vision changes that come along with migraines, you are not alone. Up to 20% of people in the USA experience a migraine at some point in their lives, and over half of migraine sufferers are women. Hormonal influences are one theory why women experience migraines more often than men, but blaming a headache on hormones is not a good enough reason to suffer. In fact, often times migraines are triggered by something other than hormones, something which we have the power to control--what we eat!
Diet has been linked to migraine headaches. Certain foods may be triggers that can set off a painful migraine. Some examples of hidden triggers include these:
