Honorary Co-Chairpersons Named for
St. Louis Chapter of Second Wind Lung Transplant Association's 2011 Lung Walk
5K and 1K Race and I mile Fun Walk to Be Held Saturday, October 15th at 8 o'clock am at the Forest Park Visitor's Center.
Dr. Ramsey Hachem, MD, a member of the lung transplant team at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and medical director of "Second Wind", will be an Honorary Co-Chairperson Second Wind-St. Louis's 2011 Lung Walk a 5 K and 1K race 1 mile Fun Walk to be held on Saturday, October 15th in Forest Park. Dr. Hachem will give a keynote address "We are proud to have Dr. Hachem helping us to raise awareness and promoting the Lung Walk," said Tom Archer, President of St. Louis Second Wind, "In addition to serving as Honorary Co-Chairpersons".
Second Wind-St. Louis is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that is devoted to improving the quality of life for lung transplant recipients and their families by providing support, advocacy, education, information and guidance. The Lung Walk offers an opportunity to unite the community in an effort to benefit some of the nearly 2000 children and adults currently awaiting the life-giving gift of new lungs. The Lung Walk also serves to raise funds for Second Wind's Assistance Fund which provides financial assistance to lung transplant patients at Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children's hospitals to help cover emergency and/or non-insured expenses
Dr. Hachem, became Second Wind's Medical Advisor in 2004. He studied medicine and completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical School followed by a fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. "Over the years, Second Wind has been committed to helping patients and their families by providing a strong social support system and a financial assistance program. In my experience, Second Wind has provided instrumental support for many patients and their families. The Lung Walk is a great fundraiser for the Chapter and the financial assistance fund."
A member of the BJC Lung Transplant team, he specializes in treating diseases of the lungs and is board certified in Pulmonology, Transplantation, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine. Dr Hachem sees patients at the Jacqueline Maritz Lung Center of Washington University and at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
