Welcome
to our Newest
Board Member
It is my pleasure to welcome to the St. Louis Board of Directors, Cheryl Wagoner Monti, PharmD.
Cheryl is no stranger to St. Louis Second Wind. I remember meeting with Cheryl at TransMed Pharmacy about post-transplant medications one week after I was placed on the transplant list. She was very kind to me and assured me that we had plenty of time to adjust medications if we needed to. We had no idea at the time how true her words would be as I waited to be transplanted for several years.
Cheryl earned a doctorate degree at Saint Louis College of Pharmacy in 1999. She was the Pharmacist with TransMed Pharmacy, and worked with pre- and post- transplant patients from Barnes-Jewish Hospital; and St. Louis University Hospital; St. Louis Children's Hospital and Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She has had the pleasure of collaborating with transplant coordinators, doctors, social workers, caregivers and St. Louis Second Wind Lung Transplant Association.
She is currently the pharmacy manager for Crestwood Walgreens and still cares for transplant patients.
Cheryl's husband, Tom, is a chiropractor. She has three sons: Eric, Mark and Nick and a step daughter Sophia. You can reach Cheryl via eamial: md@gmail.com

We Remember
Hiayalie Benaenta Arzola
February 27, 2010 - January 3, 2011
Entered into this life on February 27,2010, Longmount, Colorado. She entered into eternal rest on January 3, 2011, St. Louis, Missouri. Her funeral mass was said at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Officiating was Fr. Ron Weissbeck.
Hiayalie is survived by her Mother, Erika Arzola Benavent; her Father, Martin Arzola Tavizon and her older brother Jose Julian Arzola Benavente.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left beautiful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
We will always remember you Chinita... Mom
The family temporaraly relocated to St. Louis so Hiayalie could receive a lung transplant at St. Louis Children's Hospital. She was transplanted on October 8, 2010.
Hiayalie is also survived by her maternal grandparents Jose Benavente and Ofelia Gutierrez de Benavente and their daughters, Cynthia, Jessica, and Yessenia Benavente Gutierrez. And by her paternal grandparents Hugo Weinseslao Arzola and Maria Elva Gracia Tavizon de Arzola; her paternal aunts, Angelica and Alejandra Arzola Tavizon and her paternal uncles, Edwardo and Candelario Arzola Tavizon.
Her beautiful smile touched the hearts of all who attended the Second Wind Christmas Party.
Donations in memory of Hiayalie may be made to the St. Louis Second Wind Lung Transplant Association, Inc. Please send memorials by check to Peter Nicastro, Treasurer, 2169 Willow Ridge Lane, Chesterfield, MO 63017.

February Transplant Anniversaries
By Jan and Larry Kwasigroh
Imagine getting your "second wind" in February. What a sweetheart of a deal! No better way to say "I treasure life" than to give or receive! As a caregiver I can truthfully say (for me) it's never been about candy and flowers, but just having someone special being there. And this is really going the extra mile to be there as long as possible. Through all the wind, ice and snow this winter, the following have been able to treasure the diamond dust in the snow that surrounds us with easier breathing! Glad to have you around!
18 years Jim DeMare
16 years Dave Sikes
13 years James Nette
13 years Peter Nicastro
10 years Robert Hutcherson
10 years Norma Moore
7 years Susan Milligan
