Dear Members, Friends and Family,As you are aware, the sixth annual Lung Walk will take place at the visitor's Center in Forest Park on October 16th.
The member of the planning committee make this event possible. The 2010 committee members are:
Linda Nottestad, Annette Carr, Amanda Helderle, Marian Frentzel, Peter Nicastro, Joshua Stegeman, Gary Brandenburger, Katie Horridge, Scott and Traci Snyder and myself.
We realize that many of you live too far away to attend the Lung Walk in person. You can however be involved by making a monetary donation to this important fundraising event - the only fundraising St. Louis Second Wind does each year.
Linda Nottestad's monthly treasurers' report outlines the types of financial assistance St. Louis Second Wind provides to those waiting for a lung transplant. The needs are real and your generous giving makes providing assistance possible.
Please kindly consider making a donation and mail your check today to Linda Nottestad at 1708 San Simeon Way, Fenton, MO 63026. You can also make an on-line donation via paypal or credit card by visiting our web site at www.secondwindstl.org. Click on the Lung Walk button in the menu bar.Fondly,

We Remember
Steven L. Bunsen
1952 - 2010
Steven Louis Bunsen, 57 years of age, of rural Smithfield, NE, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010. Steven became a member of Second Wind Lung Transplant Association on November 18, 1996. He then went on to serve as Vice President in 2001 and 2002 and then President for the years 2003-2005.
Steven was born September 21, 1952 in Holdrege, Nebraska, baptized and confirmed at the Hope Lutheran Church and graduated from Bertrand High School in the class of 1970.
He enlisted and served his country in the Army National Guard. Steve then engaged in farming in the Smithfield and Bertrand area his entire life. He was married to Peggy I. Forsyth and they were blessed with four daughters: Geolene, Amanda, Heather and Lauren. On March 19, 1992, Steve, who was born with Alpha-1 Antitrypsen Deficiency, received his second chance at life in the form of a bilateral lung transplant with which he lived another 18+ years. Steve was honored to have participated in the passage of LB 138 dealing with organ transplant eligibility and consent.
Steve also had served on the Hope church council, and as President of the Bertrand School Board. In his younger years, he traveled to Kearney where he enjoyed performing with the Barber Shoppers. A highlight of his life was a bear hunting trip to Canada with his friends and the trophy lies on his living room floor.

October Transplant Anniversaries
By Jan and Larry Kwasigroh
Oh, my - this is possibly my favorite time of year. The fields are freshly shaved with the mousies looking for shelter. (Not my house I pray!) At many country crossroads there are pumpkins and gourds for sale and corn mazes for young and old to wind their way through. And there are pumpkin doughnuts, cider, pumpkin shakes, ice cream, and yummy pumpkin bread to make the fall flavor extra special. Delicious tastes and spicy aromas conjuring up fantastic memories.
We have quite a list of folks that received their second wind in October. We lift a mug of cider and celebrate with you!
