On behalf of the New York Chapter of NOBLE
and the entire Region One I want to thank all
the NOBLE members and their families who
attended the 2008 National Conference in New
York City.
It was indeed our honor to serve
as your host and we hope that everyone who

outstanding experience and wonderful to see
so many members in attendance. I can say
that all those involved with the conference
put their heart and soul into assuring that
your stay in New York would be a memorable
one. and on behalf of our committees,

The conference committees tried to bring you
a new and different experience and together
with National, I believe they did. From the
CEO Symposium to the Woman's Symposium, from
Memorial March to Host City Night, we tried
to bring you the best of New York.
We were blessed to receive wonderful support
from many of our city services, wonderful
sponsors, from distinguish guest speakers and
from outstanding co-chairs but the real
credit goes out to the many NOBLE members who
gave of their time and energy to make this
happen. NYC and Region One, great job.

A Message from the NOBLE Representative to Take 25 Joseph Akers

As NOBLE's representative to Take 25, I thank each of
the chapters and the individual members who took up
the challenge "to make a difference in a day" and
participate in Take 25 events across the
nation.
Those of you at the Annual
Conference Business Meeting witnessed the
presentation of the beautiful plaque to NOBLE
by the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children Vice President Herb Jones.
Mr. Jones' comments are as follows," On behalf
of the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children (NCMEC), I would like to
personally thank you for your hard work and
dedication in making this year's Take 25
campaign a national success. With the help of
our local and national partners, more than
700 Take 25 events were hosted in over 320
communities in the United States and abroad.
We truly could not have done this without you.
The overwhelming success of the 2008 Take 25
campaign is largely due to the help and
support of the many local and national
organizations that joined us this year. With
the help of NOBLE, we have surpassed the
goals set for 2008 and will continue to do so
for years to come.
Your work has helped to protect our nation's
most precious asset - our children. After
two successful campaigns, Take 25 now has a
strong foundation upon which the campaign can
grow to reach new heights in child protection
and will soon become a household name.
In 2009, NCMEC will celebrate its 25th
anniversary and the Take 25 campaign will be
even more prominent next year. We welcome
your suggestions and feedback on how we can
make the Take 25 campaign even more
successful and we thank you for your
continued support and commitment to child
safety. To submit feedback, questions, or
comments regarding the Take 25 campaign,
please contact Russell Petty at 703.778.6501
or take25@ncmec.org.
To highlight the successes of the campaign
this year, we have posted our 2008 Take 25
Campaign wrap up on You Tube; please see the

Chicago Metropolitan Chapter Participate in Bud Billiken Parade

President Eugene Williams and the members of
the Chicago Metropolitan Chapter are pleased
to report their participation in the 2008 Bud Billiken
Parade.
The Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic is an annual
parade in Chicago, Illinois, and the largest African
American parade in the United States. Since 1929, it
has always been held on the second Saturday in
August. The idea for the parade came from Robert S.
Abbott, the founder of the Chicago Defender. It is now
the second largest annual parade in the United
States. The 78th Annual Parade took place on August
11, 2007, and was televised on WLS-TV as well as
nationally on WGN-TV in addition to local coverage. In
2008, the second Saturday in August falls on August
9, 2008.
The parade features celebrities, politicians,
businessmen, civic organizations and youth. It occurs
on the South Side of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois
and concludes in Washington Park. National and
international celebrities have attended and some have
served as the parade's Grand Marshal. The focus of
the parade is on the betterment of Chicago youth.

National Law Enforcement Museum Acquires Artifacts from Family of NOBLE Founding Member Louis Amerson

Lucius D. Amerson was the first Black Sheriff
elected in the south since reconstruction,"
in racially charged Macon County, Alabama.
He was a founding member of the National
Organization of Black Law Enforcement
Executives.
Sheriff "Amos", as citizens of the rural
communities called him, was a Korean war
veteran who became known for his
"no-nonsense" and "up in your face" style of
law enforcement. He won the respect of black
and white citizens for his commitment to
enforce the law fairly and equally regardless
of color.
Kudos to his son Anthony, for making the
donation of his father's artifacts to the
National Law Enforcement Museum and for
completing his father's Autobiography, "Great
Courage: The autobiography of Lucius D.
Amerson, "The First Black Sheriff Elected in
The South Since Reconstruction."
A Washington Post story on the donation is in
the below attached link.
