| Retired Birmingham Chief Annetta Nunn to Work with Central Alabama WYCA |
| |
President Jimmie Brown and the members of the
Birmingham Alabama Chapter are pleased to
announce that retired City of Birmingham
Police Chief Annetta Nunn has joined the YWCA
staff as a Grant Coordinator/Advocate. This
position stems from a new grant awarded to
the YW by the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation.
During the press conference the ACJF awarded
the YW with the $95,000 to further develop
the Domestic Violence program in the
Birmingham City Court. As the Grant
Coordinator, Ms. Nunn will be responsible for
organizing and assuring interagency
collaborations and continuing domestic
violence education for the different agencies
involved in this court. As an advocate, Ms.
Nunn will work to assist the victims of
domestic violence with their court procedures
and with any services that they may require.
The press conference featured comments from
the Women's Fund, Birmingham City Court Judge
Agnes Chapell, and Bob Roden, from ACJF, who
shared an emotional story of how domestic
violence has affected his life. ACJF then
presented the YW with the $95,000 check for
the new grant. Chief Nunn also spoke about
her new position and the passion she brings
to this new endeavor as domestic violence has
affected her life as well.
For over a century, the YWCA Central Alabama
has been responding to the needs of women and
families. The YW's programs and services
serve women and children by providing:
affordable childcare for low-income families;
child care and after-school enrichment
programs for homeless children; affordable
housing for families and seniors and a full
array of domestic violence services.
Editor's note: Earlier this year, Chief
Nunn received
Alabama's People's Choice Award for Female
Vocalist of the Year for her CD "Gospel in
Blues". The proceeds benefit the YWCA's
Domestic Violence Programs. Verizon Hopeline
was one of the Sponsors. It is available on
