THURSDAY FOLDER
9/6/12
From the Desk of Mr. G

Thanks for your support in kicking off the new school year!  This message will have some critical reminders and information to help everyone experience a smooth transition and successful year.

Greenwood Elementary will be using Constant Contact to communicate Thursday Folder / E-News information and School Messenger will be used to get more immediate alerts to families.  (Please be sure your Skyward contact information is accurate and up-to-date.)

I will also be communicating with families via a principal's blog, Facebook, Twitter as well as by telephone and e-mail.  Please be sure to check-out our back-to-school blog and visit the blog for regular updates.

A few important items of interest:

  • Please be sure you have filled out a new Health Emergency Contact form (available online or via hard copy in the office).  We had a few instances last year in which we could not easily reach parents due to missing information, and your partnership on this piece will really help us reduce student anxiety if we ever need to contact you during the school day.
  • The first bell rings at 7:35 a.m. There is no supervision prior to this bell, so parents are asked to drop students off at this time and before 7:45 a.m. when classes start.  If you drive your student to school or have signed permission for your child to walk or bike please ensure they arrive in a timely manner.
  • Parents wishing to pick up their children should communicate with both the office and classroom teacher before 2:00 p.m. each day and as soon as possible.  Our teachers are very busy with students at the end of each day, so it is imperative that you connect with somebody in the office who can confirm the pick-up information and route that to teachers.  Please be in the office waiting at 2:20 p.m., as this will allow for a smooth exodus for families as well as our buses.
  • Summer Learning BINGO game boards can be returned to the main office this month.
  • The first PTA meeting will be September 11 at 9:00 a.m. in the Media Center.  (The official meeting commences at 9:30 a.m. and the social time begins at 9:00 a.m.)
  • Please sign-in with the main office anytime you visit our school or volunteer.  Hallway access is restricted and a visitor badge is required.  The school office team will be happy to hand deliver forgotten items (books, lunches, etc.) and these deliveries should be dropped off in the office.
  • We work diligently to protect instructional time for students.  Your cooperation with these procedures is greatly appreciated.  The health, safety and welfare of each and every student is our top priority, and your teamwork on these procedures will maximize student learning!

We're looking forward to a great year!

Mr. Gustafson, Principal
