What People Are Saying:
"This is an excellent way to serve the Lord for a few weeks to three months. I found my time in Chico to be a real blessing."
"We had a great experience at YWAM Heredia. I really enjoyed being in the kitchen - especially learning a few Costa Rican dishes And Dave was successful at his goat-milking apprenticeship.... The kids were very sad to say good-bye. Thanks again for your help with this whole process. We definitely can see ourselves doing this again - hopefully sooner than later!" - David and Kelly R., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
"God is continuing to provide for our needs through our volunteer program. Thanks for making it easy for people to serve!" - Patty B., YWAM Tyler, TX |

Amazed By God
|
Greetings!
The date of this newsletter says Winter/Spring 2012, and if I don't finish and send this email version soon, it will be summer. In Montana, winter can seem eternal (never ending) - especially after returning from the Dominican Republic where seasons tend to blend and summer seems eternal. My bride of 34 years and I attended a board of directors meeting for YWAM San Diego-Baja at the new YWAM base it helped start in San Pedro, near the capitol, Santo Domingo. While I value serving as a board member, I also want MBI's services to be available to ministries like YWAM San Pedro's, joining with them in their work of building Homes of Hope among the poorest of the poor (right next door to Haiti). Along with the joy of serving others, seeing the transformation of lives through a practical application of the gospel (in this case, building homes for families formerly living under tarps and cardboard) refuels my enthusiasm for mobilizing more mission builders to more YWAM locations (80-degree days in sunshine didn't hurt either). Building homes for the poor and providing education for sustained community development are just some of the tools YWAM uses to introduce the gospel to those who have never heard of Jesus Christ. Throughout its 52-year history, YWAM's training schools have sparked young leaders to take action. They have taken the gospel to some of the most remote places on the planet, as well as the darkest places of its inner cities; acquired properties without any idea of how they were to pay for them, and built ministries as they felt directed by God. Much of this happened because we (YWAMers) do not know we cannot do the impossible. Armed with little more than confidence, trust and faith in God, the impossible becomes possible. This is why I delight in serving Mission Builders International - recruiting and placing those who are willing to "just say yes" to coming alongside young leaders who don't know they can't do something. I love to be amazed by God. Have a blessed spring!

Just Say Yes
|
|
Folks of all ages and from all walks of life continue to take the Mission Builder challenge to go, using their time, skills and spirit of adventure to assist missionaries around the world. The reasons they take the plunge are as varied as the volunteers themselves. But one thing remains the same: They all come back changed. God uses their service experience to call them each to something special, whether it's ongoing short-term volunteerism, a subsequent full-time calling in missions or just the pleasure of a job well done.
Would you dare to open the door a crack and let God take the ho-hum out of life? When you're ready, we can help you get where you want to go.
Why not see for yourself what God can do when you just say yes?

"With MBI, there is always something to do somewhere whenever we have two weeks. It's a practical way to serve; something we can get away and do easily for short periods of time using our skills. It's also a comfortable way to love when you aren't an evangelist by nature. You come back on fire, craving and planning another time. We're trying to figure out how to come back here and we haven't left yet! Friends and coworkers ask why we would leave work here to go work there. They don't get it at first; but they ponder it and then start asking how."
- Justin and Kiley G.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time in SE Asia and was so blessed to be connected with such wonderful people and ministries. Some of my highlights: Meeting Indonesian government officials in charge of community development for water sanitation and storage, sharing with them the 'appropriate technologies' which can be implemented at minimal costs and high success rates (Bali, Indonesia). Playing in a 3x3 basketball tournament with local people. One teammate came to Christ through this relationship (Penang, Malaysia). Preaching opportunity and evangelism in Akha tribal village. (Chiang Rai, Thailand) Thank you for your ministry and heart for placing those wanting to serve."
- Tim C.
"God set up several divine appointments that we could not have done even if we had wanted to. We both have served in VBS several years and have said how we felt God calling us to VBS ministry. The week we arrived in Juarez we found out they decided to try a first-ever summer VBS, since they had always done it in the spring, but they were concerned with having help to facilitate it. We jumped in and had a blast serving in their first-ever summer VBS.
"Second, the ministry says they have been praying for a project director for several years to come help with the new campus development project. While we were there, I got to sit in on the discussion and review the plans, make recommendations, etc. They believed I was the person they have been praying that God would send to help project manage the development. After praying about it, my wife and I decided that God is calling us to the ministry."
- Shane and Susan N. and family
"Living with so many people from different cultures kind of makes you have to go out of your comfort zone and make an effort to understand each other. Very challenging but rewarding as well. Just living in and experiencing a foreign culture was a highlight. I tried the local variety of food and drinks, had to dodge mangos falling from trees, had cold showers every day, rode moto-taxis, transported items from one house to another with a donkey and cart, saw historic sites and buildings, and saw how every day Colombians on the coast live their lives. Thanks for giving me the opportunity."
- Phil H.
"Farah was born and raised in Cartagena. We have been trying to go down there to visit her family every two years. This time, we wanted to do something more than just visit, so we pursued missions via MBI. You guys at MBI were wonderful in facilitating contacts with the outreaches in Colombia. Farah went to Cartagena to see what the needs were. She visited [a] small Christian school and was told how we could help in the future. About a month before we headed down, we organized a 'Colombian dinner party' as a fundraiser for our friends to help with donations. We accepted monetary donations along with basic school supplies. We maximized the use of our 10 checked bags for our family of five and packed many of them full of donated supplies to give to the school. We also brought down painting supplies to utilize. It was a great experience, and Farah and I both feel God's calling on our hearts to get more involved in [short-term] missions. We look forward to our next opportunity to serve."

"I'm absolutely loving South Africa, and this project is amazing. I am working with kids ages 8 to 11 from the Jehovah Jireh House, teaching in the new missions school. I really love them and hope to come back someday."
- Erika D.

"We just took one step at a time (to YWAM Maui) and were obedient to what God said to do. Now we wake up and ask how we could be so blessed.... It isn't that doing something different is more awesome or wonderful; it's just a perspective of all that God is doing in the world. It's what we wouldn't have seen had we not done this. [Some want] to know: 'How in the world did you start doing this?' It's just responding to the Holy Spirit. You open the door a crack and God takes advantage of it."

MBI Site Development |
|
As the April 2 launch date of the 2012 MBI Crossroads Discipleship Training School draws closer (if it's not April yet, there's still time to apply!), work is under way in the basement of MBI's new staff-housing fourplex to develop a classroom, kitchenette and bathroom to accommodate students and future visiting teams of mission builders.
Rarely does a building plan come together the way it's originally envisioned, and this project is no exception. Our on-site building supervisors' plans changed and took them away, and as of this writing, we're in a holding pattern before proceeding to completion. But pray with us, and watch what happens!
Once spring hits in earnest (we anticipate its arrival in Montana sometime between now and next September) and the ground is sufficiently dry, mission builders Justin and Kiley G. of Washington are scheduled to head our way once again to begin the masonry on the front and entryway of the fourplex. Handsome quarried stone was donated to MBI last year for the project, but winter moved in too quickly to place it. The stonework, along with painting the building and adding some landscaping, will complete the finishing touches on our beautiful and functional staff housing units. If you'd like to join Justin and Kiley (they are fun people!) to help with masonry, or help with painting or landscaping, contact MBI and reserve your place. In addition, our next-door neighbor, YWAM Montana, has plans for extensive remodeling of its own staff dorm later in the summer.
Six RV sites on the MBI campus accommodated the influx of mission builders who gave of their time and skills last summer to help build the fourplex. This spring, some of those sites will be used by our CDTS as some students bring their own housing.
A hearty thank you once again to all who have prayed and donated time, skills, finances and materials to see this portion of our campus and program development launched! We're grateful to all and for all who continue to partner with us, doing whatever it takes to keep connecting Christians to frontline missions.
As the apostle Paul writes in his second letter to the church in Corinth: "On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us,as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many." - 2 Corinthians 1:10-11
So, please keep praying. And again, thank you!

Outreach Opportunities
|
Around the world there are real people, real needs and real opportunities to play a critical role in missions. If you are
in the process of making plans for the upcoming months, why not give some serious thought to one
of the opportunities below? Or visit our webpage at www.missionbuilders.org, click on the opportunities tab and see how many places in the world you could serve. And don't forget to check out the many locations with
RV sites.
"I can mission build where?" You heard right; you can volunteer on the other side of the world in Ukraine! Not one, but two YWA M ministries in Ukraine have sent out the Macedonian call for help.
YWAM Kyiv is looking for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and willing general laborers for a kitchen remodeling project and some porch construction, which need to be done by September 2012 to be functional for an upcoming school. YWAM Ternopil is adding an extensive addition onto their existing facility, breaking ground this spring. They will need folks who can do finish-work.
YWAM Battambang, Cambodia, is another great "over there" place to serve. The staff is stretched thin and could really use volunteers in the kitchen and housekeeping as well as with office work and babysitting. There is also a need for a carpenter, an electrician, a plumber, a painter, and general labor. Does this sound like a ready-made opportunity for couples? Why not make it a party and take your best friends?

YWAM San Pedro in the Dominican Republic needs a cook and hospitality help for September through mid-December of 2012. You could be the answer to their prayers and still be home in time for Christmas!
Closer to home, YWAM Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada has an extra special need for their King's Kids ministry. They have children's choirs from Rwanda coming to tour the US and Canada, and the y desperately need retired, qualified drivers to take the wheels of Greyhound-sized vehicles. Tours range from 2 to 9 months at a time. Their next tour, featuring a choir from Burundi, begins this May. We know you will be blessed by this one-of-a-kind opportunity!
YWAM Boise Cascade, Idaho, has a long, long list of needs this spring and summer as they update and renovate their facilities from cabins to canteen and shower houses to shop. They are als o updating their RV sites, not to mention keeping up with general repairs and grounds keeping. Needed: general labor of all kinds as well as landscapers and skilled plumbers, electricians, carpenters.
Quick! YWAM Virginia is looking for a lunch cook/meal planner for their spring discipleship schools (starting March 25th). A kitchen assistant who is familiar with their setting has already committed, so you won't be alone. They can receive RVs and they are located just minutes from all the best history in the state of Virginia.
The YWAM North Carolina Metrolina Office in Cha rlotte has a request for help to complete a construction and renovation project. Specifically, they need a finish carpenter to spend a week finishing the trim work and odds and ends in the master bedroom.
YWAM Boston has a new, 23,000-square-fo ot building that needs walls, a staircase between floors, a wheelchair ramp, 3 shower rooms, and boilers installed. They have licensed contractors to oversee the project but need plumbers, carpenters, an electrician, folks to install sprinkler systems and fire alarms, painters etc. (Blueprints are available online.)
YWAM Chico in California welcomes you to their beautiful, historic facility! If you are a welder, cement worker, or mason, they could use your help immediately on stairs, pipe railings and rock walls. Of course, there is room year round for anyone interested in volunteering in facilities, maintenance, the kitchen, hospitality, housekeeping, or on the grounds. You are welcome to lend a hand any time of the year, but now would be good too!
Here are a few more options to consider:
YWAM Minneapolis is expanding their reception area, and have dorms and two new offices that need sheet rock, flooring and suspended ceilings installed. YWAM Heartland in Kansas City, Missouri, needs help installing a septic tank and drain field for their classroom. All the supplies are in place. They could also use extra hands to help finish the kitchen project underway in the classroom building. Last but not least, if you are experienced in drywall, YWAM Kona, Hawaii, has an ongoing need for those willing and able to tackle the job of hanging, taping and mudding.
