Curtis of Chrysalis
Chrysalis - Changing Lives Through Jobs: When Curtis was released from prison and moved into a halfway house, he was overwhelmed by the idea of finding a job. Upon the advice of his parole officer, he enrolled in the Chrysalis Employment Program. "I didn't want a job, I wanted a career," Curtis said. "All it takes is doing what you're supposed to do." WORN
WORN: Buddhi arrived in the US after living in a Nepalese refugee camp for 19 years. Now she helps train other refugee women who knit for WORN. WORN, a fashion accessories line created by Catholic Charities Fort Worth, has found a way to eliminate many barriers to employment, providing employment, financial training, and emotional support! Excel Center Grads Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana: In late July, 87 adults received high school diplomas from the Excel Center, a charter school launched by  Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana in 2010 for older youth and adults who had dropped out of school. Students complete all requirements for a high school diploma, and the school's curriculum accelerates credit attainment while also addressing many of the out-of-school barriers that can hinder student progress. Read more here

KidsLINK's Tools For Life Making a Difference in the ClassroomAn independent study on KidsLINK's Tools For Life curriculum has shown positive results in students' ability to manage emotions. TFL emphasizes communication and healthy relationship-building. RSF Social Finance Makes an Exciting New Loan: RSF Social Finance continues its pioneering efforts to improve society through its investments with a new loan to Ceres Community Project. RSF has been developing the impact investment field for over twenty years, and Ceres provides crucial nutritional support to families dealing with illness in Sonoma and Marin counties. Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati report on developing a social enterprise ecosystem: The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati launched a major grant program to start up heath social enterprises in the Cincinnati area in 2007. In over three years of operation this initiative did more than create a few start-ups; it initiated a conversation that helped bring a social enterprise ecosystem into existence in Cincinnati. Before You Say "I Do" - Why nonprofits should be wary of merging
 
With the best of intentions, many funders and other commentators encourage nonprofits to merge, arguing that their integration will help reduce duplication of services, difficulties going to scale, and competition for scarce funding. All too often, however, no one is prepared for the costs and challenges of merging - in part because they do not have enough information about it.

There's a clich� about bridge partnerships that says a husband and wife should never attempt to play as a team -- the possibilities for disagreement and ad hominem remarks are just too great, with potential damage to the marriage. When you choose a strategic partner to help you launch or grow your social enterprise, you'd better be careful -- especially if you're considering an alliance with a private sector company. Read more here
