SEA Welcomes Madeline Hart-Andersen madeline

If you've called the office or emailed SEA since the last newsletter, you've probably already met the newest SEA hire, Madeline Hart-Andersen. Madeline, SEA's Ace of All Trades, is doing just what her job title implies: a little bit of everything. Her duties fall into three main areas - member service, office management, and media content. Madeline has been involved with nonprofits since a summer spent as an intern at Habitat for Humanity in college. Most recently, Madeline finished a year of AmeriCorps VISTA service in October 2011. She served in northern Utah and focused primarily on capacity building. She speaks Spanish fluently, and when she's not at work she likes to be outdoors - biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Madeline graduated from Grinnell College with a BA in Mathematics and Anthropology.

It's Always the Little Things

My grandfather lived to be nearly 103. Or it might have been 102. We were never quite sure. All we knew was he crossed the "Little Water" (the Black Sea) and then the "Big Water" (the Atlantic Ocean) at the age of 11.

He was at various points in his life a farmer, an entrepreneur, a pinochle savant, a lay leader in his church...

And a bootlegger.

Which would have worked out fine except for the smudge of coal on his brother Joe's nose. . .
