bible by candlelight

I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven . . . was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. (from 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, read Sunday, July 8)

Last Sunday we heard an enigmatic passage from Paul's second letter to the Corinthians referring to "the third heaven," and "a man caught up into Paradise."  This may have sounded rather bizarre, but what Paul is trying to say is actually in keeping with much of his theology celebrated in the church.

Bring it to the Table!

This week's menu: Garden Fresh Vegi Frittata, Tomato Salsa, Steele Cut Oats and toppings, Fresh Fruit, Coffee, Juice

Doesn't that sound good? At the bottom of the Font E-news there is a coupon that you can bring along the next time you visit Our Community Kitchen to eat breakfast. You can sponsor a breakfast for someone who can't afford to pay, or bring along a friend who's never come before.

The doors opened in June of 2011, and we have been growing strong ever since. We offer classes, catered events, facilitate micro-food business and have partnerships within the St. Croix River Valley. Partnered with Ascension Episcopal Church, where Our Community Kitchen is located, we all strive to cook and eat well together.

If you need a breakfast, we have one for you, if you want a breakfast, why not pay for a friend you haven't yet met. We encourage everyone to Bring it to The Table!

P.S. To check out our menu that changes weekly, please go to: http://www.ourcommunitykitchen.org/Menu.html

coffee cup   Summer Coffee Hour

Thanks to all the volunteers that organized coffee hour these past few months.  During the summer months, there is no organized coffee hour, but if you would like to make coffee and bring treats, please do so.

Please note, that because there is no formal summer coffee hour, there are no volunteers to clean up.  If you do decide to have an informal coffee hour or if you are the last to leave the building, PLEASE clean up afterwards: empty coffee pots, wash the dishes and wipe down the counters and tables.  The directions for the dishwasher are posted on the machine

Thank you for being considerate of all that use the kitchen during the week and expect a clean kitchen when they arrive to do their work, especially Our Community Kitchen.

godspell

Godspell!

Our own Christof Krumenacker is in this summer's cast of Ashland Production's Godspell and would like to invite his Ascension family to come enjoy the show!

One of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time based on the Gospel of Matthew and parables from the Gospel of Luke, Godspell features a sparkling, seminal score by Stephen Schwartz.

The main story of Godspell is portrayed in the show's subtext--in the way the players interact with their leader, coming together to create a loving community. Godspell boasts a string of recognizable songs, including, "Day By Day," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," and "By My Side". The student performers will be directly involved in the creative re-visioning of this phenomenal show.

Godspell will be performed from August 3 at 7:30 pm until August 12 at 2:00 pm at Ashland Productions, 2100 White Bear Ave., Maplewood, MN. 55109

Show Information and Tickets can be purchased at:
ashlandproductions.org

*Godspell is currently on Broadway and has had many incarnations over the years. Here's a clip from the 1973 film production: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8q7xl4cr7Y
starring Victor Garber as Jesus. In contrast, here's a clip of Highlights from the current Broadway production: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XldYPXDwJYU&feature=related
*Note from Editor: I played acoustic guitar in the 'band' of a Minnetonka Community Theater production of Godspell back in the early 80's!  It was a fantastic experience. When you leave the show you will feel uplifted and energized!
Stephen Schwartz also wrote the music for Wicked, Pippin, Mass, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and many others!

Soderblom

NATHAN SÖDERBLOM
Archbishop Of Uppsala, 1931

Nathan Söderblom was born in Trönö, Sweden, in 1866 and ordained in 1893. He was chaplain at the Swedish Embassy in Paris from 1894 to 1901, and earned a doctorate in comparative religion from the Sorbonne. He then became professor of the history of religion at the University of Uppsala, and in 1914 became Archbishop of Uppsala and Primate of the Church of Sweden.

Soderblom, a Lutheran in a church that had retained the historic episcopate, valued the liturgy and devotional tradition of traditional Catholic worship, while seeing much of worth in the writings of liberal Protestant scholars. He believed it his duty to work for a united Christendom, both catholic and evangelical, and saw practical cooperation on social issues as a promising first step. During World War I, he worked tirelessly to alleviate the conditions of prisoners of war and refugees. For this and his subsequent work for Church unity and world peace, he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1930. At Stockholm in 1925, he organized the Universal Christian Council on Life and Work. Meanwhile, a chiefly Anglican group had formed an inter-denominational Conference on Faith and Order. In 1948 the two groups merged to form the World Council of Churches. As Archbishop of Sweden, he was concerned to deepen the channels of communication between the Church and the laboring masses, and also between the Church and the intellectuals. He died 12 July 1931.
