Vacation Bible School
June 11-14, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

This summer kids can explore key Biblical themes through a program created by Buff+ and Mindy from Kate DiCamillo's award winning story: The Tale of Despereaux.  Children will hear parts of the story read aloud, see clips from the animated film, and reflect on them through arts and crafts, drama, and imagining our church to be the castle and dungeon in which the story is set.  We plan to have a local rhythm and blues artist providing live, electric music for rocking sing-a-longs. Cost is $20 per child, with a family cap of $40. Books are available for $8.00 and are in the Parish Hall for sale.  Sign up with Mindy at church or click here for registration form and information.

Urgent need!!

Our Supportive Housing Program is in need of a female mentor for a single mom with three girls.  A mentor calls the family once per week and visits in person once a month.  The mentor is fully supported by a dedicated committee and case manager.  If we do not have a mentor for this family very soon, we will not be able to have the family in our program.  A mentor from 1st Presbyterian Church would be willing to co-mentor the family if this would help someone ease into the mentoring role.  Please call Cindy Parsons at 439-2641 as soon as possible if you have questions or if you would like this rewarding position of being a mentor.
collumbarium art  Remembering The Saints

This Memorial Day weekend, remember our parishioners who have joined the Heavenly Saints, honored in the Ascension Memorial Columbarium in the west garden area of our church. The Columbarium carries on a centuries-old Christian tradition of laying to rest the remains of parishioners in the churchyard, and it provides a peaceful place for family and friends to gather and remember their loved ones.

The granite stone memorial wall contains 136 niches for the cremated remains of church members. If you want to learn more about the Ascension Memorial Columbarium or reserve a niche, contact the church office at (651) 439-2609, Jim Christopherson at (651) 439-4932, or any other member of the Columbarium board including Wendy Fernstrum, Cindy Green, Dick Johnson or Barb Kelley.

The Memorial Columbarium

Melvin O. Johnson (1907-1986) and Marjorie G. Johnson (1911-2005), two active past members of Ascension Church, came home to their final rest last week when their remains were placed in their family's niche in the Columbarium. You will notice their names freshly inscribed on the granite wall of

the Memorial Columbarium by the garden behind the church.

Marjorie loved the garden at the church and provided many beautiful geraniums to bring color to the area. She also gave the front doors to the church a number of years ago. Marjorie would be well pleased to see that the doors have been kept up with their new red paint and bright new hardware. Years ago, Mel also gave the church much of his time and talents serving as the treasurer for a number of years.

On May 11, Sally Johnson Novetzke, Mel and Marjorie's daughter, brought their two urns to the church accompanied by her husband Richard and their four children Chip, Andrew, Sarah, and Beth. At this time an Inurnment Service was led by Fr. Buff for their family gathering. Each of the children and grandchildren took part by adding their special memories of Mel and Marjorie. Sally's brother David Johnson and his wife Mary, from Utah were not able to attend, but will come to the Columbarium later. The Novetzke family gave a generous memorial contribution to help maintain and beautify the garden areas around the columbarium and church.

St. Joan of Arc

Joan Of Arc

Visionary, 30 May 1431

Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc, Jeanne la Pucelle) was born in France, near the border of Burgundy, on 6 January 1412. She is honored by the Church, not for winning military victories, or even because her visions were necessarily authentic, but because, being persuaded of the will of God for her life, she responded in faith and obedience to that will as she understood it.
