Welcome to Yoga Bits...

There I was, sitting around in easy pose pondering the universe, when suddenly it hit me: people aren't getting enough unsolicited email nowadays! So I decided to tackle the issue head on and generate some myself.

Seriously, you are receiving this premier edition of Yoga Bits because you were previously on a related mailing list. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.  You may also forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in receiving it.

In each week's newsletter, you'll find information about class times...plus a little bit of yogic science or wisdom to take along in your daily life.

Taking Out the Garbage
Why meditation is messy

Yogic science says that only 3 minutes of meditation affects the electromagnetic field, the circulation and the stability of the blood.

Don't worry about "doing it right." Meditation is a process and is often fairly messy! That's because when we allow ourselves to become still, the subconscious begins to dump the mental garbage that clouds our judgment and experience. Think of meditating as "spiritual house cleaning." You don't expect your house to be pristine WHILE you are cleaning it.

Simply find a quiet, comfortable location, sit with a straight spine, close your eyes, slow down the breath and focus inward for the allotted time. Some people prefer a mantra to keep the mind focused and projecting positive thought. I suggest something simple such as "Ong" (which means creative consciousness) or "Sat Nam" (sat meaning truth or reality, nam meaning name or identity; sat nam = truth is my identity). You can repeat the mantra aloud or silently.

If your mind wanders away and starts making a grocery list, that is perfectly normal! Just gently bring the focus back to your breathing and/or mantra as often as necessary.
