The Fairies are Here!

Early this spring, we noticed that small items were disappearing from the Garden Center on a daily basis. First it was a pair of glasses, then a box of pens, then the buttons off a sweater left here overnight! What was going on?? The last straw occurred when our computers crashed . . . we had to get to the bottom of this, and fast! After much research into what might be the cause of all of this mayhem, we reached our conclusion: FAIRIES!!
Apparently fairies are not very competent carpenters, and therefore, they make do with found objects and slip into our computers, appliances, and cars for shelter and safety. While they mean no harm, our electronics and vehicles don't appreciate winged beings tinkering with their insides! So, how do you fix the problem? Create a fairy garden! If they have a place to call their own, they will leave your things alone. Solve the mystery of the missing socks . . . create your own fairy garden!

We have everything you need to keep your fairies happy: beautiful arbors and chandeliers, lanterns and birdhouses, benches and bistro sets, and much, much more. Come in and see how fairies live!
Fairy facts:
- According to author J.M. Barrie: "When the first baby laughed for the first time, his laugh broke into a million pieces, and they all went skipping about. That was the beginning of fairies."
- They only come out at night after us humans have gone to sleep.
- Fairies can be quite mischievous at times . . . hence the missing pens and buttons!
- Hawthorn trees and foxgloves are special to fairies and therefore protected by them.
- Fairies only have four fingers.
- Fairies help plants and trees grow . . . that's why you need to create a space for them in your garden!

Why Sneed's?
by Jenny Rash
We are so appreciative of our customers! We know that there are many garden centers in the Richmond area. So, why choose to come to Sneed's? I have had customers tell me that their cars inexplicably turn into our parking lot when they drive by, but most of you are making a conscious decision to make the trip to Sneed's. We hope that it's because you appreciate our smiling faces, knowledgeable staff, and fun and exciting plant material. We hope that you see the love and care that we put into what we do. We hope that it's because you appreciate our organic approach to gardening and our commitment to sustainable practices. There are, however, other reasons to shop here as well. We are a local, family-owned business keeping Richmond green since 1975. That is 37 years of supplying plants, garden advice, and Christmas trees to the people in our neighborhood!
Choosing to shop at local mom and pop stores over the big box stores does alot for the community as well. Consider the following the next time you head out to shop:
- For every $1 spent at local businesses, 45 cents is reinvested locally. Non-local purchases keep, at most, 15 cents in your local community.
- Local businesses tend to contribute to community churches, schools and other non-profit organizations. Non-profits receive an average 250% more support from smaller business owners than they do from large businesses.
- Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and in our community, they provide the most jobs to residents.

Spring Music Series Recap,
by Bob Sneed
 | | Norman and the Clackwells were one of the groups performing this spring! |
We just completed our first season of "Sunday at Sneed's", a series of four afternoon spring concerts offering music in our garden. Featuring groups from a diverse array of musical genres, the concerts were great fun and a huge success. Even though the first event was rained out, the next three were welcomed with perfect weather, beautiful plants, and the many friends who joined in the fun -- whether they just sat in the shade and listened, danced, or enjoyed the music while shopping. In addition to the music, we had a local artist on site during the concerts showing off her pet portraits as she sketched creative landscapes. If you missed the spring music series, don't worry. Our plan is to have four more musical events in the fall and another four again in the spring of 2013!
Now for the "nitty gritty" of the season: We are moving into the warmest part, and I want to remind all gardeners to be very conscious of your plantings' watering needs. Please remember to increase sprinkler times, as well as supplementing with hand watering in extreme heat or periods of dryness. New plantings need supplemental hand watering even if they were planted in the fall of last year.
We always appreciate your business, and we remain committed to offering the higest quality and most unique plants and garden accessories possible -- along with amazing service provided by a creative, knowledgeable and friendly staff!
