A Few Words About Spring,

by Bob Sneed

Spring is such a great time of year, and this one has been especially so. Many fear that we are going to have an unusually warm summer, because it was so warm this past winter. I don't pretend to know if we'll have a hotter than normal summer, a milder one with an early fall, or a wetter or dryer season. Frankly, no one but Mother Nature really knows. So what does this early spring mean? It means gardening as usual, but with the added benefit of warmer than normal temperatures to enhance the joy of the activity. It means that the tulip magnolias and camellias did not freeze out, which just added to the beauty of this spring. It means continuing to respect the local frost date of April 15 (and some say May 10). It means we got a break from the typical Richmond winter weather, and I loved it! When all is said and done, I am wishing for a grand spring and a summer that is wet and not blistering hot for all Richmond-area gardeners.

Since 1975, Sneed's Nursery has provided Richmond-area residences and businesses with premier landscaping solutions.
