TUCSON (Jan. 12, 2011) - Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry will not recommend to the Board of Supervisors to increase fees within the Southwest Benefit Area or in unincorporated Pima County. On October 6, 2009, the Pima County Board of Supervisors adopted three ordinances, which created the Southwest Benefit Area with a $9,500 transportation impact fee. While staff recommended the fee to be implemented January of 2010, the Board did not approve the timing or phasing of the fee implementation citing questions and concerns raised by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) regarding growth forecasts and rationale for phasing adjustments of the impact fee increases. Staff was directed to work with MPA and address the organization's questions and concerns. Curtis Lueck and Associates (CLA) was hired by the Pima County Department of Transportation to provide an analysis of the concerns raised by MPA. Stakeholder meetings were held by staff and ultimately Mr. Huckelberry concluded that this is not an appropriate time to increase impact fees.
