CHAIRMAN'S CORNER | | Myrna Ballard, 2011-12 GACCE Chair Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce Dear GACCE Members,
Happy New Year! I know you are as excited about the possibilities of the new year as I am.
It is an especially exciting year for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber, as we are celebrating our 100th anniversary! We do have some fun "stuff" planned for our centennial celebration, but this momentus occasion in the life of our Chamber is causing us to focus on something way more important than parties and fun. It has caused us to take an appraising look back at what our Chamber has achieved on behalf of our business community during the past 100 years. My predecessors kept a good running tally of our Chamber's more notable accomplishments over the years, and as we reviewed them something became very clear. The achievements that are remembered and noted are not small things. Just the opposite. The accomplishments that "made the list" are remembered 25 years, 50 years, and even 100 years later because they made a profound difference in the life of our community.
I'm starting 2012 with this in mind: When I look back on this year, what will I want to be able to say was the single most important thing our Chamber accomplished for our business community in 2012?
In 2012, let's encourage each other to start the year thinking about how we want our chambers to end the year. Let's think BIG! We must help our communities understand that big things in our communities simply cannot be accomplished without our chambers.
