   Now six months Old!

         Brewery News

Golfers from all over merged to the beautiful, private, and exclusive Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, adjacent to the The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to participate in an all-day extraordinary purpose... golfing 'For The Troops'. All proceeds went to this nonprofit organization that raises money to prepare "We Care" packages and ships them to all the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and to the Disabled American Veterans Local 55, of Simi Valley.  To date, For the Troops has sent nearly 50,000 packages to the men and women serving along with letters and cards from those who care and a ton of supplies and goodies.  Surf Brewery was proud to be a part of this worthy event!

Surf Brewery has tapped a new beer, a German Pilsner.  Brewed to the German style of a Pilsner, this beer showcases an up-front, domestically grown noble hop character balanced against a pleasant graniness from the continental European pilsner malt.  The clean lager fermentation and light body make this truly a quaffable beer while still very flavorful.  Enjoy this beer by itself or with crispy fish tacos with a side of chips and salsa.

Live music is now being played on  Saturdays, at least twice monthly.

First up this month is Dockweiler Jones Duo, with acoustics and vocals, in the style of  blues and folk, and will be playing at Surf on December 3rd at 6 PM.  Also playing in December, the Death and Mary band, a 4-person act hailing from Ventura County. Using a variety of uncommon instruments, the band frequently adds more and more unique sounds to their repertoire, creating a barrage of melodies suitable for the ears of the young and young at heart. Death & Mary is currently recording tracks for their first self-produced album, Never Be Forever, due to release in late 2011 but can be seen at Surf Brewery  December 10th at 6PM.

Surf Brewery's bottles are now for sale!  Surf Patrol Black IPA and County Line Rye Pale Ale are now available for purchase in our Homebrew shop, as well as several craft beer locations throughout Ventura County.   Ask your local liquor store to carry Surf Brewery's beer!

California Beer History Fact:

Fritz Maytag went on producing flavorful beers that had heritage and contrasted markedly with the predominant bland American lagers of the day.  His original beer, Anchor Steam, is dark amber in color and rich and malty to the taste.  It carries on a unique tradition of California brewing that was nearly lost.

California Surfing History Fact:

In 1916 famous Hawaiian surfer, Duke Kahanamoku, surfed Ocean Beach in San Diego and subsequently inspired Olympic swimming teammate Tom Blake.  In the 1920's, both Blake and Kahanamoku surfed and gave demonstrations throughout California.
