NCC Foundation Holds Scholarship Awards Day



The Nash Community College Foundation recently honored scholarship recipients during its Thirty-Sixth Annual Scholarship Awards Day in the Brown Auditorium. One hundred eighty-nine scholarships totaling $175,000 were awarded to deserving students for the 2011-2012 academic year.

  

"Students attend Nash Community College to gain new skills, retrain for different careers, and to prepare for a hopeful future. NCC Foundation gifts make an impact on the local economy and contribute to the empowerment of thousands of lives," 2011-2012 NCC Foundation Board President Lank Dunton said.

The annual awards day ceremony serves as a time to recognize students' academic achievements and the positive impact gifts made to the Nash Community College Foundation have on students' lives.

  

The NCC Foundation was established in October 1983 to increase community awareness, raise funds for the student scholarship program, and to help meet the needs of Nash Community College. These resources ensure that deserving students have the financial capability to take advantage of the quality instruction and higher educational opportunities the College provides.

Detention Officers Graduate   

Six students recently graduated from Nash Community College's five week Detention Officer Certification Course. The state accredited course is designed to teach the latest skills necessary for service as a sworn detention officer in North Carolina.

  

The course is governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Nash Community College is among approximately 50 accredited facilities offering the Detention Officer Certification Course in North Carolina. 

  

Students learned basic information about the criminal justice system, legal aspects of management & supervision, search and processing procedures, first aid, CPR and medical care, patrol and security functions, key and tool handling, inmate supervision and management, suicide and crisis management, physical fitness, communication skills and more.

Plan now for 2012 Spring Semester! Registration on WebAdvisor for current students opens Thursday, November 10. Registration for Spring Semester begins 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 15 through noon Friday, November 18. New student orientation is Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. in the Brown Auditorium.
