NCC Breaks Ground on Building Expansions

A groundbreaking ceremony held on August 31, 2011 marked the official beginning of the expansion of two existing NCC buildings. A Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management expansion will add classroom, laboratory, office and dining space to the south end of the Business & Industry Center. An Early Childhood Education classroom expansion will consist of a new instructional wing on the east end of the Betsy B. Currin Child Development Center allowing more hands-on training. Bookstore Donates Backpacks


Nash Community College is helping improve the quality of life in the Nash-Rocky Mount area by donating one backpack to Communities in Schools for every two backpacks sold in the College Bookstore. The College donated 289 backpacks to assist local elementary and middle school children. Communities in Schools' mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Eaton Corporation Tours Nash Community College

 

Nash Community College hosted Eaton Corporation for their quarterly planning meeting on August 11th and 12th. During the visit, Eaton employees toured the Computer-Integrated Machining Technology, Robotics, Electrical Electronics and Industrial Systems Maintenance departments.

 

"Several recent Nash Community College graduates have gone to work for Eaton Corporation. This tour offered an opportunity for Eaton Corporation officials to see our customized offerings. Our Customized Industry Training program supports the economic development efforts of the State by providing education and training opportunities for eligible businesses and industries," Nash Community College Dean, Economic and Workforce Development Wendy Marlowe said.

   

Eaton Corporation is a leading provider of electrical components and systems for power quality, distribution and control; hydraulics components, systems and services for industrial and mobile equipment; aerospace fuel, hydraulics and pneumatic systems for commercial and military use; and truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety. The Hydraulics Group, located in Middlesex, manufactures Teflon and thermoplastic hose. The operation comprises machine operation, powder blending, extruding, braiding, yarn winding convoluting, and associated support functions. 

 

Nash Community College's Customized Industry Training program works with area companies such as Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant, Hospira, The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, Kaba Ilco Incorporated, Atlantic Natural Foods, LS Tractor, Universal Leaf, Edwards, Incorporated and New Standard Corporation. Training offered includes Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing, Programmable Logistics Control, Biotechnology, Welding, Robotics, Industrial Safety, Industrial Forklift, Safety Quality Food Handling, Leadership and Supervisory Training and more.
