Security Enhancements Under Way
Security continues to be a main priority at Nash Community College. Campus Safety & Security Director Wayne Lamm recently reported several new measures being activated throughout campus to continue to maintain the highest security standards.
Last September a proclamation was approved by the NCC Board of Trustees authorizing the establishment of a campus police department. In December, the motion was approved by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and four staff members including Wayne Lamm, Nathan Mizell, Keith Milks, and Carmi Guyette are being sworn as back-up for the Nash County Sheriff's deputies already in place.
In addition, the College has joined the North Carolina Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and the Safety Director continues to have open communication with students during orientation sessions and other communications.
Exterior lighting was recently improved by adding new lights and changing the style on 57 exterior lights. Ten new display monitors have been installed to present information to students and to aid in emergency notification. Seven more will be installed later this year.
All faculty and staff recently attended a Rapid Deployment and Lockdown presentation by Rocky Mount Police Department Sergeant Michael Whitley and classrooms and offices have been modified for more effective lockdown exercises.
Existing security cameras are continually being monitored and improved and additional cameras are scheduled to be installed. The addition of call boxes is also being considered.
