Hospice Establishes Endowment

The Board of Directors of the Community Hospice Foundation of Rocky Mount recently established a scholarship endowment at Nash Community College. This fund will serve as a perpetual legacy to the Community Hospice Foundation to train skilled healthcare professionals for careers in palliative care.

The scholarship will be awarded to first year Associate Degree nursing students who are residents of the Rocky Mount area.  Additional criteria to be used in scholarship selection are the recipients must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or higher and have financial need.  The scholarship recipients should be of good character and demonstrate the potential for success in healthcare. The scholarship will be renewable for a second year if the recipient is making academic progress.

"The College is honored the Community Hospice Foundation has invested in our nursing program and students", said President Bill Carver. "We are grateful for their partnership with us to train healthcare professionals to meet the medical needs of our community."

The Community Hospice Foundation, a charitable wing of Community Home Care and Hospice, was founded in 2001 to provide financial assistance for education and research to support end of life care and to provide assistance for the terminally ill through community resources or direct assistance.

Executive Director Frances Roberson (center) of Community Hospice Foundation presents a $10,000 gift to NCC President Bill Carver and NCC Foundation Director Pat Daniels to establish the Community Hospice Foundation Scholarship.
