Dear Jennings Community,
Math Night was a lot of fun with over 50 students and their parents attending. A big thank you to Kathleen Ruppert and Kathy Caulfield for organizing such a great event!
We also registered over 30 acts for the Variety Show. Mark your calendar for February 11th because this year, our event is at Warde High School and all are welcome to attend--even if you are not in the show!
The PTA received wonderful news this week: Our Garden Committee won a $2,900 grant from Lowe's! The grant was submitted by our Garden Chairs, Michele Meehan and Susie Kamin, for our "Outdoor Classroom". The money will be used for items to enhance our garden and to build on our after school garden program. Thank you and congratulations to the Garden Committee!
Enjoy the weekend,

| Education Budget Information - Let your voice be heard! |
Board of Education Vote on 2012-2013 Proposed Budget This Tuesday!
Dr. Title proposed a $149.46 million budget -- an approximately $3.78 million, or 2.6 percent, increase from the current budget. District-wide enrollment is projected to increase again next year. The proposed budget includes funding for new initiatives and improvements that will impact Jennings. In particular, the proposal includes:
- A new elementary special education staffing model for the 2012-2013 school year, which will result districtwide in an increase in certified teaching staff and a decrease in paraprofessionals.
- An expansion of the English Language Learners (ELL) program in the elementary schools
- Additional afternoon office coverage for the elementary schools
Separate from the operational budget is a proposed Capital Improvements Budget, which Dr. Title describes in his Blog. As he notes, this budget contains larger, one-time expenditures that will not recur year after year. This year's proposal includes renovating the remaining Jennings School bathrooms (as only half were funded last year), and removing all existing underground oil tanks required by state law (Dwight, Jennings, North Stratfield, Osborn Hill, Riverfield, Sherman, Fairfield Ludlowe HS and Fairfield Warde HS). Please be sure to check Dr. Title's Blog for additional budget information throughout the coming weeks (link on the left hand side of Flash).
Please mark your calendars and try to attend the January 24th Board of Education discussion and vote on the 2012-2013 Education Budget, which will be held at 7:30 pm in the Board of Education offices, 501 Kings Highway East, 2nd Floor Board Conference Room. Once the Board of Education approves next year's budget, the budget goes to the Boards of Selectman and Finance for further discussion and votes as part of the overall Town budget. Once approved by those town bodies, the Town budget goes to the RTM for final consideration. We will continue to keep you informed via the Flash with all items that will directly affect Jennings School.
As additional meeting dates and votes are scheduled, we will let you know so that your voice may be heard!
