NickRichardsonLaw.com's Docket

Greetings!

NWR Header Life as an attorney isn't nearly as glamorous as Hollywood portrays. No one ever tried to get me to "breach attorney-client privilege, thus getting myself disbarred for life, then testify in open court against the Mafia..." as happened to Tom Cruise's character in The Firm.

Running my own office is probably more like a scene where the main character plays every part. But in seven years of practicing law attorney in the Chicago area, I'm proud that my straight-forward, honest approach has helped my clients meet their goals within what is legally possible.

This inaugural issue of NickRichardsonLaw.com's Docket coincides with my one-year anniversary of 'hanging my own shingle' as attorneys tend to say. I hope you'll enjoy taking a quick look every month.

Without your support, I wouldn't have the referrals and clients who have helped make my first year success. Thank you doesn't begin to express my gratitude.

My office is planning a slew of anniversary-related promotions this summer, and I'll do my best to keep you informed. If you haven't already, please connect with me on  Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter through the buttons below.

Sincerely,

Nick Richardson

Will Donations Help Raise Funds
One major benefit of being on my own is the freedom to give back and support causes important to me and my clients. Right now as a start-up business, I've found the best donation is my time. Starting last summer, I've made will donations to family and friends' charities when asked.

In 2010, I've been involved with two such causes already via will donations, not a glamorous prize but one valued at $500. Last month, an event and a silent auction for Hope4Bridget raised awareness about Batten Disease. And earlier this year, Chicago's Community Christian Alternative Academy held its annual benefit with all proceeds going toward scholarships. I'm honored to help support these causes.

If your organization or a cause close to your heart is interested in a will donation from my office, please email me with the details.

J School Made me a Better Attorney
Mizzou Header
Consistently ranked as our country's top journalism or J school, Mizzou, as the University of Missouri is widely known, adheres to the philosophy that the best way to learn about journalism and advertising is to practice them. So as an undergraduate at Mizzou, I worked at the local paper and experienced a brief glimpse into the "real world" that strikes fear into every college student.

This classroom training and work experience gave me a leg up in law school for sure. While others balked at writing lengthy papers, I knew exactly how much time it would take me to write out sections of 1,200 words because I had done it under a real world deadline and excelled. Effective communication (written and verbal) skills are critical to my job now - just as they are to journalists. My experience at Mizzou also taught me valuable interviewing skills that come in handy when dealing with both my clients and the opposing side.

imperative."
