Spam Reduced by 18 Billion Emails per Day!
A coordinated, worldwide takedown by security firms and Internet service providers recently destroyed the Grum botnet, a giant network of malware-infected computers that generated an amazing 18 billion spam emails every day.
Owners of computers that are part of a botnet usually are unaware their PCs are infected with malware that makes ordinary computers pump out massive volumes of spam.
Botnets also help criminals launch denial-of-service attacks. These can overwhelm and shut down servers operated by legitimate organizations, causing business interruptions and leading to a loss of customer confidence.
Expect less spam and fewer internet business interruptions, at least for now, which is good news for everyone. |
